Coping with the pain

hey guys I'm 38 weeks 3 days preg with my first child. I'm only 19 so this is all new to me. Since it's getting close to my due date I'm starting to think about what I'm going to take for the pain of labour. Does anyone have any suggestions or experiences of what they are choosing or chose? Thanks guys

Re: Coping with the pain

  • I'm an FTM, i will try for an all natural birth, if i feel like i couldn't do it then i'll go with epidural

  • The pain may not be as bad as you think.... Try some natural alternatives first and they may be sufficient- breathing techniques, remaining active, optimal positions, relaxation, visualisations. Good luck x
  • Nothing works besides the epidural. I'm going to try all natural this time but last time I had morphine and that didn't do a darn thing except make me throw up and then I got the epidural. So if you don't want pain just go for the good stuff right away!

  • I've read a lot about giving birth naturally. Every woman says "once i gave into the pain, things progressed and it was much easier". So I think it's less about finding ways to minimize pain and more about embracing/accepting/enduring the pain.

When I was having my first, I found it helped a lot to pull down on something. So I laid in the bed and pulled up on the beds side handles. I'd life myself up and hold myself up throughout the contraction. For me, it was so much better. BUT  it was also exhausting. My doula said this time around, I can do that if I want to help get through contractions. But at some point, it might be best for me to just try to let my body go limp and ride out the contractions and just remember to breathe and do nothing more.

So those are all my goals/hopes. I'll do the epidural if I need it, I did have it last time, and that's totally fine too. I'm just trying for natural this time.
