IKEA Cribs

So I used the search bar for this (sorry if I missed it) but I also googled it and still came up a bit lost. DH and I live about 6 hours away from an IKEA. The closest one is in Denver, but since DH is turning the big 3-2 next month, we planned a trip to Denver the last week of May. We figured while were up there, we'd stop at IKEA and pick up a crib. What I have yet to find is solid reviews on them (that I don't have to pay for :-<) I found some info on a recall of their cribs last year but no solid info as to why they were recalled. I've found some people who liked them and some people who did not. So I'm reaching out to you ladies! Have any of you used an IKEA crib? What was your experience with it? Is it sturdy, safe, etc?

Re: IKEA Cribs

  • I don't have first hand experience but my best friend used one with her first and never complained about it!

  • I read the baby bargains book cover to cover and IKEA cribs were given an A rating :) I say go for it, this rating was based on reviews of virtually every crib brand out there. We would have done it but wanted to put our crib on the registry and our families do not live anywhere near an IKEA. Economical choice too!
  • I have two for the boys and I love them. Sturdy and I like that the lowest setting is pretty close to the ground compared to the graco we have so the toddler bed transition hopefully won't be too bad. I personally liked that they aren't designed in a way that they have to be in one orientation (like a sleigh style). Also, all cribs have to meet safety standards no matter the manufacturer.

  • One of my close friends has IKEA cribs for both of her kiddos. She loves them! We drove almost 2 hours to pick one up a few months ago. She's never complained about them and the kind she has seems very sturdy.
  • We're getting ours from Ikea!
  • My brother highly recommended getting a crib from ikea, they love theirs!

  • I don't have one personally but I have a friend who loves hers and wouldn't hesitate to buy one myself if I found a style I liked.
  • Well....that's a bit of a drive, and I couldn't find any that I liked there. Just try to time it right because all I have to say is FUCK DENVER TRAFFIC. (I live in aurora), so best of luck to you and I hope you find the crib you're looking for!
  • We'll be getting an IKEA high chair! They have them in our mall food court and are easy to clean and take up a small space. I should look into the cribs too.

I'm also buying an IKEA bed. Only bad thing about it is the size of mattress and sheets they require is non standard. At least in my country. So I'll have to buy everything there and be limited to that.

Don't have any solid advice but the price of cribs are outrageous and if I wasn't given one I'd be going that route!
  • I'm buying a high hair from IKEA, it's the only simple non spaceship looking one I could find that wasn't $250.00. My In laws are buying our crib as their present to the baby so I'm no help there.. BUT I do live in Denver and can say that our IKEA is THE WORST for being over crowded on the weekends so either aim for super early on a Saturday or go during the week.
  • My sister bought a crib from IKEA. Her only compliant was that it was a weird size, so the bedding she already purchased didn't fit. So I'd say just check the mattress size before you buy bedding to make sure it fits.

Weird about the mattress complaints. I actually bought a nicer mattress from baby's r us and it fit perfectly in the crib and all sheets have too. Maybe there is a crib model that's smaller that's a non standard size? Mine cost $100 and fits everything normally.

I'm outside the U.S. so probably that's why.
  • We have this crib from IKEA and really like it:

We needed a second crib because our boys are close in age and our 1st wasn't ready for a bed yet so I did not want to spend a lot of money. It has held up well and I really like how deep it is. It is tough for my little monkey to climb out of.

  • Planning on getting an IKEA Sniglar crib.. and when the time comes probably the baby bath and high chair too. Even if they weren't the cheapest (which luckily they are..) I really like the design and simplicity. Plus someone told me the Antlop high chair is so easy to clean you can literally hose it down.
