Green poop

Has any of you moms dealt with green poop in newborns? My daughter has had 3 green poopie diapers. Ive called the health link and they said there is no concern until she's had it for a week since she has no fever. She's breast fed mostly but is supplemented with formula since she's a very hungry baby.
What was your experience with green poop. How did you help your baby? Thanks for the help

Re: Green poop

  • We had this problem. I am also BF, supplementing with formula. We switched to soy and that helped a lot, but didn't completely get rid of it. I started paying really close attention to what I ate and if it had any effects on LO. My husband was very allergic to eggs as a kid, and once I eliminated eggs from my diet, it seemed to completely fix the issue. Sucks because I love eggs for breakfast, but oh well! Good luck!

  • This happened to my LO too, I EBF and when I brought it up to the pedi she suggested block feeding because sometimes he didn't nurse more than 5-6mins each time and the fat in milk can do this. So we block fed and it went back to the normal yellow color.
If you're unfamiliar block feeding is when you do the same side for 2-3 feelings then switch and so the other side for the same number of feedings. Maybe this could help?
  • There's nothing wrong with green poop. It's not considered a problem, just like your doctor said. Yellow, green, tan, brown, all normal colors for poop.
  • Besides it's strange appearance, there's nothing wrong with green poop. Her body is just adjusting to life on the outside. Unless you start seeing blood in her stool, I wouldn't be too worried.
