Pregnancy and Dog scratches

Some street dog scratched my skin. Should I be worried for rabies?

Re: Pregnancy and Dog scratches

  • Rabies passes through saliva, so the dog would have had to have licked his claws first and then broke your skin. Was the dog acting funny to give you cause to worry that it had rabies and wasn't just someone's pet that wandered off? You can always call the dog officer and hopefully they can track it down. If you are stressing, call your Dr, but I personally would not be worried.

  • Very little reason to worry about rabies. Make sure you clean them with peroxide and put some antibiotic cream on them to avoid infection though.

    How bad are the scratches?

You actually shouldn't use peroxide on cuts - it can cause damage to the tissue and delay healing. Clean it good with soap and water and you can use an antibiotic ointment for minor abrassions.
  • Did you research how you can get rabies? Just clean it and out a bandaid on it.
