Is too soon ???

At the last ultrasound , wich was at 12 weeks , the doctor told me that the next one we ll be able to see if it's boy or girl . So I organized the gender reveal party for that day of a next ultrasound , found the baker and payed for cake , invited lots of ppl . The US is today and now I'm thinking - isn't it too early ?? I'm week 16 now . Is it possible I'm gonna have to cancel everything ?? I feel bad rushing it so much

Re: Is too soon ???

  • You should be able to tell by week 16- make sure to drink something with lots of sugar in it so baby will be movin and a groovin in there for your doctor to get lots of angles! Sometimes babies will cross their legs and doc will have a hard time seeing.

  • Drink orange juice and cross your fingers that the baby cooperates. I found out at 16 weeks with my first.
  • Genitalia is fully formed by 16!weeks, so it's just about how cooperative baby is at that point!
  • Like the other ladies said it's there, it's just a matter of the baby showing off the goods! My daughter had her legs crossed and my friends son had his umbilical cord in between his legs so neither of us found out until birth!!
  • The tech at my 12 week ultrasound took a guess based off of what she could see, then we did the new blood test and got the sex results and her guess was correct! So I'd imagine yours should be able to tell at 16 weeks, especially if they  can apparently tell now at 12 weeks ;)   We found out the sex of our first baby at 16 weeks.

  • There is no guarantee at any gestational age that they will be able to get baby in the right position to see between the legs. I would not plan a party until AFTER they have determined the sex. I had 3 ultrasounds with my son and he was always curled in a ball making it impossible to see between the legs. I ended up having to wait until the birth to find out the sex.
  • You can always push the party back if you need to. Or announce in a big dramatic way that you still don't know. ;) Good luck!!

  • I had my 16 weeks ultrasound today. It's definitely not too early as far as baby being developed enough, its the cooperation of baby that will make the difference. Today, my baby was breech and "sitting" indian style with the cord between its legs so they couldn't really tell. They had a guess, but told me not to go on it, and they would check again at my 20 week ultrasound. I hope your little one cooperates for you! :)
  • It's all about cooperation. My LO didn't even want to cooperate for the NT scan. I had to cough, roll over, sit up, lay down and jump around to get the baby in the right position.

  • Did you find out?

  • They offered us an extra ultrasound at 16 weeks for gender reveal, but we aren't finding out. I know it's never a sure bet, but I would think if they make a practice of charging a couple hundred dollars for an extra ultrasound, it would be a safe bet that they could tell the gender.
  • @mamanastia were you able to find out the sex?!

  • I'm 16 weeks today and did an elective ultrasound 2 days ago and they were able to see Girl parts! After two boys I'm worried next ultrasound they will tell me my girl grew something lol
  • They should be able to tell at 16 weeks. I already know I'm having a girl but we did an elective US on Friday last week just so my mom could see the baby while she was in town. Little girl was hiding her face and her lady parts for 25 minutes. We got one picture and the tech couldn't take a guess on the sex. Baby has to be willing to give it up too!
