TTC after 35

Blood Work and HSG results leave me feeling like I need a new doctor (loss mentioned)

Hi everyone.  It's been a while since I've been on... I was benched after a MC in December for 2 cycles (and my cycles are way too long).  I had Day 3 blood work come back as the following:

FSH - 7.2
Estradiol - 19
AMH - 6.26

So - from what I can tell my estradiol is no good, and my AMH is high, meaning potentially PCOS or other?  My Estradiol is bad - again from what I have researched.  My Dr hasn't chimed in other than to say not sure why it's high.  It's a much longer and more annoying story I won't get into, but I am not feeling the love with this practice.

I had an HSG on day 5.  One tube seems fine, other tube MIA.  Dr said it's either blocked, infected, or just spasmed due to dye and we could try again in a day or two... and if it's blocked again we'd do a laparoscopy.  No thanks.  The HSG was extremely painful (more than I thought it would be) and I wasn't interested in doing it again 2 days later.

I'm feeling down about things at the moment.  While I wait for my Dr, I thought I'd see if anyone here has experience with this and can offer advice?

Thanks in advance.

  • Welcome back. I haven't has a HSG so I have no advice there but I will say if you have doubts about your doctor find a new one. Feeling comfortable and confident in your doctor is so important.
This is just my thoughts- if your cycles have been longer than usual could that have an effect on your test results. Maybe see if cycles return to normal in a few months and maybe repeat them.

  • Sorry you are feeling down.  I agree with @hooligans4 if you are not feeling your dr you should switch.  I have had two HSGs done.  If my second had been my first, I'm not sure if I would have done it again.  My first was similar to a pap.  My second the docs doing the procedure did not know what they were doing and ended up getting someone from the OB dept to do most of it. (Mine were done at a local hospital, not my normal dr.).  My understanding is if it is really painful the pain is caused by a blocked tube. (my pain was caused by poor driving skills with the catheter) I'm not understanding why they would do it again- it seems like the images would indicate the problem but I'm not a dr.!

Is this an RE practice? My only suggestion there if you are able to shop around, you should.  I found hours varied, some groups do procedures in 'batching' instead of patient's timing, plus it's such a sensitive thing you're doing, you should have good interactions with staff.  My RE office was so good at patient care/communication, I wish all offices were that way.

Good luck.  I hope your consultation is able to give you some explanation on your numbers.
  • Def switch Drs!!! I don't have any experience but want to show support and it seems like the other ladies have given great advice! (hugs)

  • I agree. Try a different doctor. I will say that my HSG was incredibly painful and they told me everything was fine and looked perfect. So I'm not sure pain actually means anything.
