Migraines!

So. Lately I've been having really bad migraines. They've been bothering me so much that it's hard for me to work during the day & hard for me to sleep at night. The ache sits right at the front of my head, making my brain feel heavy on my eye lids. Idk what's worse, the nausea or the headaches! 11wks. 5days.

Re: Migraines!

  • I had to leave work and call out sick the next day, it took almost two days to get rid of it. My doc told me to take 325mg of Tylenol and some soda with caffeine because I'm having trouble tolerating coffee. It didn't help much, I just has to plant myself in a dark room and ride it out.

  • Did you have migraines before pregnancy? I had bad ones before and had to have injections and electro therapy of my head but haven't had one since (knock on wood). The doctor did warn me that they could come back being pregnant. Tylenol and cold compress to head or neck and basically ride it out. Hope you don't continue to get them. Get plenty of fluids and try a drink with electrolytes. That has really helped my nausea.
  • I had them bad in my first pregnancy, Tylenol did nothing. The only thing that worked was making sure I was drinking enough water and adding caffeine into my diet. I gave it up first trimester, added my normal cup of coffee in the second trimester and my migraines went away for the most part! My dr was actually the one that told me to do it.
  • I have started to get tension migraines this week (11wks). Yesterday I took an extra strength tylenol, had some caffeine and laid in a dark room with a cold compress. It's miserable but you have to give yourself time to get over it.
  • I took 1000mcg of Tylenol and a soda and that's the only thibg that helped
  • Thanks ladies. I never had migrane issues before my pregnancy. The Tylenol didn't help me but I only took a small dosage, I'm a tad nervous to take anything other than my vitamins. Thank you for your suggestions, I'm on it
  • Thank you so much for asking this question! I have been getting migraines as well which I never had before getting pregnant, I am going to try the suggestions given as well!
  • My chiro suggested an icepack on the back of my head where it meets my neck while in a warm shower or bath. It's gotten rid of 2 migraines so far!
  • I've had migraines my entire life. I was on a medication that helped some but had to go off before I got pregnant with my first. My migraines came back really bad during pregnancy and Tylenol did nothing to help. my doctor recommended acupuncture. I know it may sound crazy but it has helped so much! I've been going regularly for the past 2 years and rarely get migraines anymore. It may be worth looking into, especially if it's covered by insurance as it was for me.
  • I got them before pregnancy but they stopped until 9.5 weeks and I got one. Im also nervous to take meds after having a miscarriage at 12 weeks. I read about it on many different websites. Oddly enough, a warm washcloth that quickly turned cold on my face covering my forhead and eyes really helped. It also helped me fall asleep and when I woke up it was gone. It was a long day a pain, but it was a simple remedy that I never thought would work. Good luck!
