Swelling

I am 35 weeks, and my feet and ankles stay swollen. Right now I am laying in bed not even standing on them and I've noticed they've gotten bigger. My blood pressure is good, and nothing else bothers me, but I am worried about the amount of swelling for no reason. Is this okay?

Re: Swelling

  • I'm having swelling with normal BP, too, and my OB says it's normal at this stage.  She recommended putting my feet up as much as possible, wearing a pregnancy support girdle, and cold compress / icing if needed...

I'm sure you're okay and this is just another lovely part of the third trimester. :-P It's so frustrating, though!

  • Yep totally normal, as long as your bp is normal. Drinking tons of water and steering clear of salt and processed foods will also help. I swell really bad towards the end of my pregnancies.
  • I just noticed yesterday I have cankles now. Whaa!! :'(

I just hit 34 weeks yesterday. It seems that lately when I'm running around doing errands my feet start to swell. I'm thinking it's because I'm sweating and not drinking enough water.

I just drink more water and elevate my feet.

I'll be getting a pedicure with DD1 today. It's sandals weather and my feet are a hot mess! lol
  • Almost 34 weeks and my feet and fingers swell when I go for walks. Part of it is the heat, we went from pretty much 40s to now upper 70s in the past few weeks. My sil had bad swelling the last 4 months of her pregnancy, it started when it was getting warmer.
  • I'm 38w and it's horrid. Now they're swollen all day and not just after too much sitting/standing. I can only wear crocs lol. Hopefully more water and rest will help.
  • I've started sleeping on the couch, for at least the first few hours at night, with my feet up on a pillow on the arm of the couch. This way it's higher then my heart, (compared to when I was laying in our recliner and then my feet were basically still parallel with me. ) I think. It's making a big difference for how they look the next morning
  • I'm suuuuper swollen too! My skin hurts from being so tight! I have found that pushing water, protein, and potassium helps... My chiropractor actually tipped me off about the protein and potassium helping with swelling and I do notice a difference on the days of good about it
  • I have intense swelling as well and Ive found that elevatating your feet helps and a foot/cankle massage from my husband works wonders like no other! Definitely brings down the swelling and feels AHHMAZING!! ^_^ lol
  • I'm swelling too. :/ I didn't with my son so it freaked me out when I started swelling this time around.  Blah.
  • I am swelling badly. I just turned 38 weeks. I have to wear my husband's shoes
  • I spent a good part of my weekend in a pool. I was just kinda walking in the shallow end, but when I got out my husband even said out loud "omg your feet look normal!" I think the water acts like compression stockings.
  • My feet, ankles, and lower legs are horribly swollen!  When it's really bad I elevate my feet so they are above my heart.  Swimming in a warm pool helps if you have access to one.  I also have my husband rub my feet and legs when they really hurt.  I tried compression stockings but it took forever to put them on, and now that it's warm, I don't want to wear them.
