uti meds..

in 2nd Trimester
I'm 21 weeks an was told if I don't finish my uti meds I can have contractions.. Is that true? Every uti med makes me seriously nauseous and I can't finish the meds..

    If you don't finish your UTI meds you risk having the infection not completely go away which, yes, means that you could have contractions if the UTI progresses. It can lead to preterm labor, your water breaking spontaneously, or worse. Additionally, not finishing an antibiotic makes it more likely that you could end up with antibiotic resistant bacteria which is definitely not something I would ever want to deal with while pregnant. You need to finish your meds. Talk to you doctor if you are having trouble keeping them down, make sure to take them with food (if allowed with them), and maybe if worse comes to worse they can prescribe you some sort of anti-nausea meds to go with them. You need to finish them though.

    Everything pp said. You should always finish a course of antibiotics, unless directed by your Dr.

    I have had more than one person that I am aquatinted with go into preterm labor & lose their baby due to an untreated UTI infection. They were asymptomatic & had no idea until it was too late.

    Finish the meds.
