hi all, just wondering if anyone has ever had this....my husband and I recently completed our first IVF treatment (no known fertility issue on my end just something with my husband). 4 weeks pregnant hCG was 141 (nurse said anything above 50 is healthy). One week later (5 wks) hCG was 1300. Went in 4 days later and my number only doubled once in 4 days (2300)!! Doctor said it could be vanishing twin (since originally they implanted 2 embryos). Anyone ever have this experience with IVF? Had a ultrasound 5w5d and sack was there so no ectopic! Thanks!!
Re: HCG and vanishing twin? IVF
I just had my 8week 6 day ultrasound this morning and we have a vanishing twin. (We are preggo via IVF)
Our 1st u/s was at 6weeks 5 days and showed 2 heartbeats - the first at measured at 116bpm and the second at 114bpm they both had good measurements.
This morning we went for our 2nd u/s and baby A had a 160 BPM heart rate but we were unable to locate the heartbeat on baby B.
The good news is Baby A is measuring perfectly and heart-rate is on track! So kind of a strange happy but sad day all at once. Not sure how I feel about it. Kind of in a fog.
So today I had my first visit with my OB. She was doing a belly u/s and was uncertain about what she was seeing. She thought she saw a second sack but could not see anything in it. She said she wanted the MFM to check. Anyhow, she gave me the picture and sent me on downstairs to my MFM (same building.)
Anyhow, the transvaginal ulstasound confirmed that we have/had a vanishing twin. The baby looks good though and had a heartbeat of 150. We now have an estimated due date of 12/18.
I can't help but feel a little sad. I'm trying to focus on the positive and am still thrilled about being pregnant. How can you feel loss over something you didn't even know was there? Anyhow... I'm hoping the little sadness will pass.
Trying to stay positive though. I think it was just a little bit of a shock for me. Are you a FTM or do you have any LOs?
It was a very strange range of emotions especially since we have been going through fertility treatments for the past year and a half and this is the furthest we have ever gotten! We had a mc last year at 6w. My nurse assured me that this is very common and it is sometimes your bodies way of telling you that it is better off just carrying 1 baby to term. I had my 3rd u/s this morning and baby was moving all around and measuring perfectly! You could still see the second sac on the u/s which was sad, however, we are feeling lucky to have made it this far. I'm starting to let myself finally believe that this may actually happen. I've been very protective of my heart and like you, sometime fearing the worst.
I am a FTM at 41 years young! Good luck to you and your little one, keep me updated! We have our NT scan next week. I am 11w2d today.
