Is 34 weeks too late?

My family asked me when I would like my shower to be and I chose June 20th because it is the day before father's day. It will keep my mind busy and give me things to do on father's day (write thank you notes, make any returns, etc) However, I just looked at my calender and I realized I will be one day shy of 34 weeks on that day! I am a FTM so I have no experience with third trimester discomforts nor
do I know if 34 weeks is cutting it too close to my due date to get all of those things done. Is 34 weeks too late in my pregnancy to be able to comfortably enjoy my shower? I want to be able to have fun without being in pain or uncomfortable. When in your pregnancy is considered the best time?

Re: Is 34 weeks too late?

  • My sister had hers when she was 35 weeks and she actually went into labor right after it was over! But she had been overly active that whole weekend (gone on a long hike, etc).
With that said, I am also a FTM, and don't really have any other insight!

  • With my son years ago, I had one at about 36 weeks and another on my due date. I wasn't super uncomfortable for either.

  • I had my shower with DS1 at 37 weeks, in June, in MN. It was OK, but I was really tired.

    DS1 -6/25/11

    DS2 -3/23/13

    Missed MC D&C 8/26/14

    DD - 8/26/15

    LO#4 due 5/30/17

  • As long as the shower is local, 34wks is probably fine.

  • Mine is on June 20th as well and I'll be 31 weeks. I'm not too worried. Gives me time to get everything organized :)
  • I choose June 20th as well that way I still have a month to get things if I need to and get things in order for baby
  • Totally fine. My in-laws are doing a "sprinkle" type shower for me on July 4th and I'm due August 8th. Expect to be tired, but otherwise you will be fine.
  • I had mine at 34 weeks.
  • My friend had hers at 34 weeks and went into labor that night, baby shower and baby the same day ;)
  • Wow I'm having 2 baby showers and the first one is exaclty 1 month from my due date and the other is 3 weeks before my due date. I'm so scared its cutting it really close and I'm not going to have time to unpack or prepare. But I'm not paying or planning either shower so Im just going a long with it.
  • It's all in what you feel comfortable with. My first baby shower I did at 34 weeks and had my son at 39 weeks so had time to get all last minute things o needed. With my second I waited again until 34 weeks and had my daughter at 36 weeks and didn't get everything done after. Doc says he thinks I will deliver between 34-36 weeks this time due to previous birth history and complications so this time I am having my shower at 30 weeks just to be safe.
  • I had the same fear, or that she was going to come early, so we set up a "meet the baby" shower a month after she's going to be born.
  • I think 34 weeks is fine.
  • I'm doing mine at 32w but honestly I have friends that felt worse at 16 weeks than I felt at 20. Just take it easy (wear something comfortable, drink lots of water, etc.)
  • Lol !! Mine is the exact same day and I will be 34 weeks
