would like to hear some induction stories.

Curious to hear how long after being induced did anyone have their babies? Did your hubby get to stay over night? I have heard so many different things. This is my second but my first was so simple and came on her own. Anyways date set for the 24th at 7 am. Would like to hear some stories.

Re: would like to hear some induction stories.

  • I would too. This is my second and I guess I don't understand induction? I'm putting on my list for a question at next Dr appt.
For my first my water broke just a day shy of 42 weeks and when I got to hospital I was only 1cm which didn't change for like 8 hours so when I got the epidural and

  • Continued.(it wouldn't let me post in one?)... and pitocin it still didn't do anything for another 10 hours so I was almost going to have to have a cs by hour 20 something and then I finally started dilating. Now since I got pitocin does that count as being induced?
  • I was induced with #2. No pitocin, they gave me an itty bitty pill which started labor and I went from 0-10 cm in 3 hours. Actually sure pleasant. I went In at 9 am and didn't get my pill until 1pm though, so getting the pill took longer than my labor.

  • I was induced at 39 weeks 2 days for high blood pressure. I wasn't dilated at all when I went in. I was induced at 6am and he was born the following morning at 5:40am. I am really really hoping to avoid the induction this time and go on my own.

  • My sister went in at 41 weeks. They broke her water, contractions started. She didn't get past a 3. After about 8 hours, she got pitocin and epidural. This kept up all day. I think after 15 hours she had reached a 5. And then she delivered at 24 hours. The pit level at one point was as high as like 24. They then brought it all the way down to a 2 and raised again. It was long and crappy. Her son was born nearly 9 pounds and had a 2 day NICU stay for fever. Mom also had a fever. But all ended fine- baby was (and is) super healthy and strong and with a lactation consultants help she developed a perfect nursing relationship. Dad got to be present for everything except the placement of the epidural, which is actually perfect bc was his chance to go quickly eat without feeling badly about leaving mom's side.

Her next induction, she started with pitocin and didn't allow her water to be broken. It was another 24 hour labor, but this time around- no fevers and no NICU and no stitches!

This is just a personal story I know, obviously, not saying this is the right way to go always or whatever. I honestly don't know. But good luck!
  • I was started with the cervagel they put in there to soften your cervix and what not and I went in about 1 p.m. And then they took it out around 12 a.m. And started me on pitocin. They allowed me to shower and relax and move a bit from 12 to 1 a.m. They kept me on that and about 11:30 a.m. Nothing was changing so they upped my pitocin dose and I was at a 2 dilated and then by 45 min later I had gone to a 9 dilated but because of how fast I went and the harshness of my contractions it made my daughter flip breech and I ended up with a c section.

Long story short. I don't like inductions and I wouldn't recommend it until you're at least 40 or more weeks just because if you're body isn't ready it usually is for a reason.
  • I was induced just before 42 weeks with my first. I went in at 8pm and got cervadil to dilate my cervix and was sent home. I contracted all night and my water broke at 3am. I went back in and stopped contracting at about 9am. Started on pitocin at about 3pm, epidural at about 5pm and had the baby at 9:45pm. Not bad, all things considered. I would never recommend induction if you didn't need it but my body and my baby weren't even making plans to deliver and I didn't want to be pregnant forever! He was transverse breech until almost 39 weeks as well!
Fingers crossed that this LO is as anxious as me to be done with pregnancy!
  • I hope this little guy decides to come on his own. Reading into induction really has me freaking out. Some people have amazing stories and then some are really scary.

  • My second was an induction at 40weeks + 5 days. My husband and I went in at 5 and had prostaglandin pessary put in to ripen the cervix. Then at 7am I was about a 2 and my OB ruptured my membranes. By 10 I was only at 3cm so they started a low dose of syntocin and then I got an epidural about 1pm. By 4.30pm I was at 7cm then suddenly 10 minutes later I felt really heavy in my butt ( odd feeling as I had an epidural) so they checked me and I was at 10cm. After about 15 minutes pushing my son was born posterior, but my OB was able to turn him gently with a low suction ventouse, so he ended up coming out facing down and I had no tearing or episiotomy. It was seriously the most perfect birth.

I'll be induced again for this one on the 28th of April, and am hoping for a similar experience, but mostly just for a healthy happy baby.

My husband didn't have to leave or anything because it all happened in the same day, but the hospital has double beds so he could stay after I delivered too. It was a 4 night stay, as Mason was slightly jaundiced and they wanted to make sure it started to clear before sending us home.
  • My induction story is not terrible! I was induced at 38 weeks exactly due to low amniotic fluid. My first dose of the cervix ripening inserted pill was at 2pm, I dilated to about 1-2, another dose was inserted around 5:30 pm, dilated a little more, last dose inserted around 10pm. All the while I was slowly dilating and progressing but water didn't break yet. Contractions started to get really bad around midnight and I was then at 5. I got a pain med thru my IV as I was trying to go all natural but needed something to take the edge off. This med didn't really help with the pain but it allowed me to relax much more between contractions during transition phase and by 3:30 am I was dilated to 10. I had pushing sensation come on very suddenly and doctor had to break my water at that point. I pushed 4 times and she was out at 4am! So mine was 14 hours total, only about 4-5 of those were bad contractions, and I only received the ripening pill and the IV pain med. It went very smooth overall so hopefully yours does too!
  • I was induced with my first at 39 weeks due to GD and thinking he was big  (he was 7 lb. 5 oz at birth and has never been called big since.)

I went to the hospital the night before where they inserted the pill to prepare the cervix around 8 or so.  Cervidil?  I was supposed to have that overnight.  However, that caused my water to break at midnight or so.  They didn't start the Pitocin to see how much I could start labor on my own.  I did start having contractions on my own, but they started me on Pitocin in the morning.  At 4 cm, I was in a lot of pain.  I wanted to make it longer without an epidural.  I got one anyway and after that went from 4 CM to 9 CM within a half hour.  It definitely did not stall my labor!!!

When I was at a 10 cm, he was still pretty high.  They tried to get him to move down using a lot of techniques.  I did push for 2 hours, but he was born at 4:02 PM.

Overall, it was pretty smooth!!!  I think he would have come in the next few days if I was induced, but I'll never know!

  • You don't want to hear my story. Don't want to scare you. Needless to say induction, if your body isn't ready, can and will lead to a c-section. I was induced and 23 hours later had an emergency c-section.
  • I was induced bc my water broke and I never started contracting. I was on pitocin for 32 hours, receiving the maximum dose the last 8 of those 32 hours and I never dilated past 3 cm. I ended up having a c section bc my water had been broken for almost 48 hours and I was just waiting for an infection at that point. The OBs were great and let me stay on the pitocin for so long instead of forcing the c section bc my daughter and I were tolerating it well. It's difficult though bc you are on bedrest while you're on the pitocin! My husband was allowed to stay with me for everything. The only time he wasn't allowed with me was when I was taken to the operating room and they were prepping me and putting in my epidural and catheter. He was allowed in as soon as that stuff was finished. Good luck to you!
  • I was induced both my boys ! Now 15 and 7.5 . Each time went into hospital before dawn and had both babies around 11am . Personally , I hope this one is the same as I'm a planner lol . Some say pain is worse but I only had an epidural with second son. In was induced only because over due date and weight gain . Dr tells me now you have to meet some strict guidelines and be min 39 weeks or have a condition.
  • @melodysmommy09 I want to hear it! I'm supposed to be induced at 39 and I want to know what to ask about.
  • Thank you ladies for sharing your stories.

  • I was induced with my first and scheduled to be this time too on May 20th. With my first I went in the night before and they started cervidel. I pretty much was cramping all night after that but nothing crazy. The next morning at 7:00 am started pitocin then had the epidural at 10 ish and I was fully dialated and starting pushing at around 11:30am. Baby was delivered at 1:03 pm. Overall it was a good experience . Don't let other stories scare you. Everyone is different. Just trust your doctors and your body. Good Luck!
