Let's talk about our Obgyn!

I had a great Obgyn when I lived in another state & now I am meeting with one that is part of a group. I have never met any of the 4 others that may be available to deliver me although 2/4 have excellent reviews online. Has anyone else experienced anything similar?

Re: Let's talk about our Obgyn!

  • I've had the majority of my appts with my OB. There are three others who may possibly be there and I've met two of them and spoke to the third by phone. I'm very happy with my OB and the office is very responsive whenever I need anything. Maybe you can ask to have each of your appts you have left to meet with one of the others?

  • I think I've met most of them by now because I've had all 4 babies with the same practice, but not the case with my 1st. I had a dr. Who I didn't "mesh well" with, and then was delivered by someone else. #2 and #3 I had a wonderful dr and she delivered both. #4 and #5 I have a different, equally as wonderful dr. We shall see which doc delivers DS!

  • My practice is a group of 10 doctors. I have seen them all over the course of the past 9 months. If it matters to you schedule your next few weekly exams with the ones you have not met. I am a FTM but from what I hear you probably won't care who the doc is when you're delivering since you deal mostly with the nurse staff at the hospital anyway.
  • My practice is 2 doctors and 2 midwives.. I have seen them all for appointments but didn't really like either doctor so now I just see the midwives.. Chances are one of them will be there for delivery but if not I'm sure the doctors would be fine too..
  • My practice has 7 doctors. I've met all but one over the course of this pregnancy. Whoever happens to be on call the day I deliver is the one that will deliver this baby. There are some I like more than others and one I dislike, but I'm sure any of them will be fine.
  • Haha oh yea every appointment has been a new doctor and it irritates me. I just want one that I can get to know for my birth. I swear I know the whole hospital. And most of them I didn't like.
  • This is my second baby and I went back to the same ob that i had with the first. Except I never saw her, I saw her resident, then 2 other doctors in the building because she was 'sick', and then the office closed for a month without warning and when it opened back up it had been taken over by a completely new ob. A male, which wasn't my preference. ... however, I've now seen him for 5 appointments and find him to be great and very caring. I like him more than my original ob!
  • This is my situation, too!  I had a single OB prior to moving and now I'm with a group.  I was worried about not having "my" OB to deliver DD in May, but... now I've met most of the OBs in the group and they all seem great / competent / nice.

And - The nurses will do so much during your labor that the OB really won't play a huge role until the end... Whoever is on call from your group will most likely be great ~

  • My OB office is a huge practice that I think has too many patients. You can never get an appointment when you need it and the scheduler has gotten rude with me more than once because the doc has told me to come back in a week and they're all booked up. I had shingles at 31 weeks and was told it was a cluster of bug bites by them. Only when I went to an immediate care center 4 days later because I was miserable did I get a diagnosis. They forgot to schedule my appointment with the diabetes team for my GD and when I finally questioned it was scolded for all the lost time (it had been a week and I wasn't told when in the next week they'd call, so I made the mistake of believing they'd call). Every prescription I've had, I've had to make multiple calls to them and leave voicemails to get them to call it in because they never remember or answer the phone.

I am so over this practice. The only reason I still go is because I didn't want to switch half way through my 3rd trimester. However, this will be the only baby they deliver. I will be shopping for a new dr once baby girl is here. It's so frustrating...
  • I'm on a midwife program at my hospital and there at 8 different midwives. I think I've met maybe 4. So far, they are all absolutely wonderful and share the same ethics and business practices. There's one in particular I've become fond of and I wish I could ensure she was there to deliver my baby. I do have peace of mind in knowing that they all work closely together and I think that helps me feel at ease. I've seen some of the OBs on staff when I had medical-related issues where I was admitted to the hospital and I have to say, they are incredibly less personable and didn't seem to care as much about my overall wellbeing. I hope you birth someone you're comfortable with!
  • So I am seen by a midwife program which has a possibility of 3 different midwives and I love it that way it's very easy to schedule appointments around my schedule because I have 3 possibilities of that time slot being open. But I do have one question for you I don't care for one of the midwives and neither does my SO so my question is can i request for a different doc when I deliver if she is the midwife there at the time?
  • I will have an ob delivering my baby because I'm technically considered an ob patient, but I signed up for group appointments so all of my care has been overseen by a midwife. The midwife I've been seeing is awesome and I really wish I had requested to be a midwife patient early on when they're was availability. So the person delivering will be a complete stranger!!
  • I am in a practice that has 5 female OBGYNs. The office and I have made it a point to meet every doctor at least once because who will be at the hospital depends on when I deliver.
  • I have been seeing the midwives but due to a twin pregnancy they aren't allowed to deliver. I will be meeting the OB gyn next week that will decide to c/s vs. vaginal. We shall see!
  • I have a male dr that I've always felt very comfortable with and think he's great. He has a male colleague who always covers for him, but with both my pregnancies, I was lucky to have my dr for every appt. Unfortunately with my first son, the one time I met the covering dr was for my delivery because I went 3 wks early and my dr was out of town. I had freaked when I found out my dr wouldn't be there last time, but his partner was absolutely wonderful, so now for this delivery at least I know that I shouldn't have any worries if the same thing were to happen again, and I'll be in good hands no matter which of the two are there.
  • My practice had about 12 doctors and I hadn't seen the one who did my delivery, but she was nice and it worked out just fine.
