Low amniotic fluid

my last sonogram showed that I had on the lower side of amniotic fluid... The doctor will keep an eye on it but I was just curious if any mothers have gone through this and had a positive outcome of course all I've read online were not some good things :(? I am 33 weeks so I know I am in a okay stage if the baby were to be born but I'm hoping to be able to go to full term

Re: Low amniotic fluid

  • If you're still within the average range, I'm sure you have every chance of having this all turn out normal! Hate to always pull the "doctor" card, but besides saying she'd keep an eye on it, did you ask about outcomes? Someone's got to be on the low end - I hope it all works out just fine. It is nice to know that if anything were to happen now and baby came, it would probably be OK? Super terrifying, expensive, all that, sure, but still . . . I find comfort in that!

  • If your fluid is low end of normal that means it's probavly in the 7-10 range. My fluid has been 3-5 for the past 3.5 weeks which is why I have been in the hospital for that time. My baby girl is still looking great on her ultrasounds and NSTs and she is still growing like a champ. So if you are low normal, everything is most likely going to be fine! I am going to have a c section at 34-35 weeks due to the low fluid, but if you remain over 5 they should let you go to at least 37 weeks or even term. The high risk doctors compared it to preterm premature rupture of membranes - they keep those girls pregnant until at least 34 weeks if there are not signs of infection. Hope this makes you feel at least a little better :)
  • @Frogger5 I have another sonogram in a week to see if the fluid levels are still dropping at that point is when they will discuss outcomes but I think my doctor didn't want to scare me which unfortunately happened but I mean I couldn't not be worried I'm trying to stay calm though. Thank you so much for your advice and kind words though it means a lot

@knwilliams01 my fluid level was at a 8. Thank you so much for your positive story I'm glad to hear your baby is doing well! I hope my outcome is good and the fluid stays the same, I'm not sure if it can go back up? But I hope it all turns out okay. Thank you so much for your reply it really really helped me!!

  • My fluid was at 9. My dr encouraged me to up my water intake. The next week it was up to 12, so it can go up.

  • I had my first at 34w1d due to low fluid. I was monitored biweekly for the two weeks prior to that. Her heart rate dropped quickly one afternoon and we were sent to the hospital for firther monitoring. It happened again there and then the blood flow through the umbilical cord started to reverse so I had an emergency csection. 11 days in NICU mainly for breathing help. She stopped breathing twice on us. The second time was when we did her car seat test to be able to go home. That caused another two days in the hospital. She is 8yo now and has problems with asthma and allergies. But she's also the size of a ten year old and amazing in every other way!
