4D Ultrasound Fail

We went for our 4D Ultrasound this weekend and I was so excited to finally get a glimpse at my little one. I am low-risk and my insurance only covers 2 ultrasounds so I haven't seen my little one since 20 weeks (and I'm 30 weeks now). So we loaded up and drove a little ways (as there are not an elective Ultrasound places near us). The whole way down to the place my belly is moving and grooving and turning and as soon as we get there...nothing. He had his hands and feet in front of his face. We did see that we will definitely be having a BOY!!! The tech tried jiggling my belly, filling my bladder, emptying my bladder, I drank ice cold water, juice and ate some candy...he slept through the whole thing. We do get to go back this weekend to try again but I was a little disappointed. Luckily he will be here sooner than later.

    My girl did the exact same thing. She even crossed her legs at out anatomy scan and has always has hands over face. Oh well, we will meet soon.

    @MrsWilson830 - oh I do hope you have better luck today! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE report back!! I'll be interested to see what works for you! I'm hoping my 2nd trip will be better. 

    My little guy typically wiggles constantly...I can usually tell the difference between awake wiggles and asleep wiggles but yesterday he wasn't interested in moving at all while we were there...as soon as we left and had lunch, he was back to moving and grooving. Part of me loves that he does his own thing and isn't going to be convinced to do otherwise.

    It's so frustrating to spend the money and not have anything to show for it...I was bummed (thanks a lot pregnancy hormones). I'm willing to try again one more time but after that I think I'll settle for being surprised.

    We had the exact same thing happen.  I tried to take note of what foods made him active, and we ended up going at a different time than the first.  I think that helped.  The first visit, we went at 1:30pm, and we got a glimpse of his profile, after some poking and trying to get him to move, he turned completely towards my back and wouldn't turn back around.  When we rescheduled we got a 5:00pm appt, I ate an orange, some cinnamon/sugar toast and a glass of ice cold apple juice.  Appointment went great, he still wasn't too active, he was resting his head on his little hand most of the appointment, but he was in a great position.  Here's one of the photo's we got.  I was 29w and 3 days.

    The amount of people I hear having bad 4ds make me feel like I must've been lucky. I had mine yesterday, and my baby was asleep for most of it, but was in such a position that we saw everything we needed/wanted to :) he has such chubby cheeks! Good luck with the next attempt! It's incredible :)

    @MrsWilson830 - OMG what cute shots you got of your sweet one!!! Those are perfect! I've been writing down different foods and times he seems to be most active (in the hopes he will be more cooperative this week)! All your wonderful posts are making me feel more positive :) Congrats on the great photos!

    @naccor - oh my, what a perfect shot of your little boy!

    Well we went twice and only got one good picture both times. Baby has the cord draped over his face and his hands were up the whole time! I felt bad for the lady who did it because she tried every trick in the book and he just wasn't at all interested in cooperating. He was just relaxed and mellow, didn't have much interest in changing positions. So here are both shots! imageimage

    Thank you!!!  At first I was disappointed (and emotional) but now I'm just more excited for the big day! He's got some amazing lips, that was the one feature I saw every time! And I can't wait to kiss those cheeks!!!

    The owner was so sweet and told me I can come back for free any time before my due date (however it's 90 minutes one way) and she would like to see a picture of him when he gets here. We did get an animal with Jackson's heartbeat in it and from the looks of the ultrasound he is comfy and cozy and healthy. 


    I think if I had to do it again, I would! It stinks we didn't get lots of great shots or an amazing dvd to share but now everyone in our families is even more excited to see that face!!!
