Shoulder pain

hi, ladies
I know most of you aren't doctors but I was wondering if any of you were experiencing shoulder pain.. Is it normal or something I should be concerned about? I've never had any shoulder problems before so it's a little weird.

Re: Shoulder pain

  • Shoulder pain can be an indication of an ectopic pregnancy.  It is caused by blood in the abdomen I believe. If you have already ruled that out, it could be unrelated to the pregnancy...

  • What she said ^. It can also be a rouge gas bubble as well. We see it a lot in surgeries where we instill gas, people wake up and their only complaint is severe shoulder pain.
  • I already know it's not an ectopic since I saw the little one wiggling around yesterday so I guess I won't worry about it.. I have been very gassy though so maybe that's something to do with it. Anyway, thank you ladies<3
  • Is it possible that you slept funny? That happens to me a lot. :)
  • I have a lot of shoulder pain also. However I have had this problem since before I became pregnant. I have a slipped disc and it causes pain from my neck down to my finger tips but mostly in my shoulder. Usually I would take my prescribed medication but now being pregnant I don't even like to take Tylenol so I'm trying to ruff it out as best I can. Hang in there girl!

Wondering if they checked your tubes during the ultrasound though? Its extremely rare, but I have seen it happen to another poster on here where they had one in the uterus and one ectopic at the same time (twins). My doctor also checked me for the same at an ultrasound where I was having left sided pain. Highly unlikely but just wanted to put that out there.

I wouldn't be worried about an ectopic honestly. Ultrasound showed a baby in your uterus. Sure twins happen and one gets stuck in a tube BUT shoulder pain always comes after the ruptured tube. I've experienced a ruptured tube. You can't miss that kind of pain. By the time I had any shoulder pain it was the least of my worries.

  • @AngieandJakeBailey I've had shoulder pain as well... It's went away for now. I am 9w5d. It was sharp and hurt more when I breathe in... I went for a massage to see if that would fix it. It seems like it comes and goes... So, I thought it might be gas pain.

I'm just providing as much information as possible in case others search for similar symptoms and come across this thread. At the end of the day, if anyone is concerned about an ectopic they should consult their doctor. Their symptoms may not be the same as yours.

Can't argue with that. But she's had an ultrasound. She's good.

  • So I agree with the gas post. Before I started eating clean, I was gassy and I cant tell you how many times I would feel it in my right shoulder. Weird but so very true!
  • I, too, had shoulder pain. Thankfully it has gone away for now and I'm hoping it doesn't come back. It was horrible and progressively got worse over 3/4 days two weeks ago. I googled it (I know) and it said it could potentially be a sign of gall stones. It went away so I'm not worrying about it and I've never had gall bladder issues before. After reading this thread and knowing that it could also be gas makes me feel better. I'm hoping that it doesn't come back, but in reading what some of the PP said and my own experience, it sounds like relief might come quickly for you! No softball playing for you!
  • My pain is in my upper left arm muscle and sometimes into my elbow. I am not sure if this is resulting from the pain in my left shoulder blade or could it be pregnancy related. I had right shoulder blade issues and then it was fixed with Chiro. But now I have it on left. Along with arm pain I didn't have before on right. I sit at computer all day so is prob the source of the back issues but could this trickle into arms. I see my doc in two weeks so plan to ask but until then...
