4 days sick, no improvements, being sent to the hospital :(

edited April 2015 in September 2015 Moms
I've been battling a low fever for 4 days, heavy wheezing and terrible cough. I'm 4 nebulizer treatments a day and 3 separate inhalers, also antibiotics. No improvements and doctors now sending me to the ER. I'm so afraid I have chronic bronchitis or pneumonia. I'm the type of person who isn't comfortable taking Tylenol when I have a headache so I'm so fearful for the baby. I know they're going to give me a chest X-ray and that terrifies me. Has anyone else been through similar situations and baby was okay? Please ease my mind

  • I was hospitalized with baby #2 for a stomach flu (needed IV Zofran & fluids). Just know that the doctors have you & your baby's health as their top priority. You may also get a bonus ultrasound, that was awesome and comforting to know baby was okay through all of it. Good luck, sweetie!

The only part I can really relate to is the X-ray. With DD2 I fainted and hit my arm and face really hard and had to have it xrayed. They made sure to cover my bump up with several of the blankets that help block the radiation. DD2 didn't have any complications from that. I just always made sure I was telling everyone I was pregnant, just so it was on everyone's mind as they ordered things.
  • I haven't been in a similar simulation but I hope you feel better ASAP!! Try not to worry too much (easier said than done, I know) about what they need to do to get you well because mom has to be healthy for baby! Good luck.

I had influenza at 10 weeks and then pneumonia at 11 weeks. My cough lasted for 6 weeks; it was terrible! The doc put me on Tamiflu for the flu and antibiotics (Z-Pack) for pneumonia. I took Tylenol, maybe two pills a day for 3 days, to keep my fever down before the other meds kicked in. The worst part was not being able to take any cough medicine, as like you I didn't want to take more than I had to, especially in the first trimester. Baby is still doing great and we have our 20-week ultrasound next week! Hang in there; the docs will do only what's best for you and the baby! (Also, I wasn't given a x-ray for my pneumonia ... they could tell by listening to my lungs that it was either pneumonia or bronchitus and treated me based on that.) Hope you feel better soon!
  • I haven't but I'm wishing you luck! I've been sick for two weeks and on round 2 of antibiotics. But remember it's all about taking care of you and baby! I just hope you feel better soon!
