Nothing sounds good to eat

First timer here...

I'm hungry, but nothing sounds good to eat. How do you overcome this? I am making myself eat some PB & toast crackers, but am kinda gagging as I do so. This has happened a few times since I got the positive test. Each time, I've forced myself to eat. TIA

  • Maybe just try some toast and a little butter.

  • I am super nauseous and the only thing going down ok today is soda crackers and fresh fruit.
  • I'm having this same issue. And I love food, never thought I'd have an aversion to it.
  • I've been feeling like this the past few weeks. I've been drinking strawberry smoothies and eating crackers/bread and cheese.
  • I'm never hungry for dinner. I had to force myself to eat a turkey burger.
  • I've been feeling like that as well.. I have very little appetite and when I do nothing sounds appetizing.. I even took a bit of a cookie and threw it away !!! I have been feeling a bit lightheaded so ob suggested to eat every 2 hours.. Going to a special store far from home this week to see if I find anything special to snack on.

Same boat...I tried eating almonds, yogurt, fruit...and ended up throwing them up several days in a row...stopped eating those foods because now can't even look at them without gagging. I was feeling so nauseous all day long..which made me not want anything to eat..think I actually lost weight! I've found popcorn to be a good snack, and in the morning all I can seem to stuff down without losing my breakfast is saltine crackers with a little cream cheese. I've also found cottage cheese and brown rice to be tolerable. Very bland foods...Everyone is different though, and you have to find what'll work for your body; I posted a similar post and tried suggestions..some of those did it work out for me as well as others.
  • Same here! I've also become super sensitive to salt :(

Help me! I've been nauseous for the past 24 hours straight! Tried toast and peanut butter and a sprite and kept it down. But non stop gagging! No appetite. Is this really going to last another 6 weeks if not more!?
  • I have been having mashed potato's w butter no gravy
  • I feel the same. I'm hungry but NOTHING looks good so then I start to feel sicker from not eating. Lol
  • @ebarrera621 I feel the same. Just started a thread to try and get suggestions of what others are managing. @gracie0218 mashed potatoes I shall try!
  • This happened with DS and it seems to be happening again for me. I had major food aversions my entire first pregnancy. So far, I am hungry but I forcefully eat because I don't want anything. Thankfully no ms yet although if history repeats itself that will be hanging very soon.
  • Glad I'm not alone! I have been drinking a Boost for breakfast and that helps get the day going. I'm going to pick up some V8 today to have around for afternoons when nothing sounds good!

  • My cousins in law gave me these things called preggie pop drops. They are sour hard candy but they have ginger oil and some other oil that helps with the nausea. I am having night sickness. Every night after like 6 or 7 I cannot eat and feel super nauseous and these really help.
  • Same thing is happening to me ! I'm finding fruit smoothies really helpful. Sometimes its a matter of getting through the first few bites of something and then the rest isn't so bad
  • *EVERYTHING* sounds delicious to me.  (Okay, except bananas, the smell of bacon, and Indian food.  Weird new aversions.)  Then I start eating it.  And then I'm full about 10 bites later.

Ewww please don't talk about Indian food! It's very high on my gag list, even though its normally my favorite!

I'm having food aversions to FOOD. I don't even feel hungry half the time, but force myself to eat. The constant nausea has really done a number on my appetite. I've actually lost 4 lbs in the past 2 weeks because of it.
  • It was previously on mine as well @missphilippine. :(

  • I lost 4lbs over the weekend because absolutely nothing sounds remotely good to me. No appetite whatsoever.
  • I'm forcing myself to eat however I just feel sick all day... After some violent throwing up which actually tweaked something in my back... (Really???) I'm just eating slooooooowww...

This is me. I choked down a pb&j solely because I was hungry and couldn't bring myself to eat what I made. Ugh.
  • Same boat. How long is this ms supposed to last? I'm a big baby when it comes to nausea.
  • All I have actually felt like is chocolate milk. But once I get it I no longer feel like it.
  • Hubby was getting frustrated with me today. I knew I needed to eat so I'd fix something but then I'd feel so nauseous there was no way. I've been so dingy I'd just leave cups and plates of drinks and food around the kitchen untouched so he'd walk in there all WTF? "Was there something wrong with it?" No, nothing wrong with the food, just me. Bleh. I'm loving the little microwavable cups of instant mashed potatoes though. Soo good. One of my OB's suggestions was going back to the comfort foods you'd normally have when you were sick. For me that's big fat egg noodles and instant mashed potatoes covered in creamy chicken soup. Although sometimes it's just sipping ginger ale and nibbling soda crackers while trying to avoid any sight, smell or mention of food.
  • Carbs and fruit... And MC Donald's. That's all I want. I had been craving popcorn for days so I went out of my way to get it. Then I put a piece in my mouth and was like, "oh no.." Bleeeeech!! I'm also planning a lunch for some friends on Sunday and was looking at recipes yesterday. Just looking at the pictures of cooked meat made me want to vomit.

  • I haven't actually gotten sick (thankfully!), but do feel nauseous all day long.  I try to eat small portions every couple of hours.  I feel sick so I don't want to eat, but when I do eat a few bites, I actually feel better, so I've been trying to keep a little something in my stomach to prevent the nausea.  I haven't really been craving anything, but I have let myself eat things I normally wouldn't (such as Froot Loops) since it makes me eat get up and eat in the morning without feeling like I'm dying.  Eating slow has definitely helped too!  I've noticed that I don't really want to think/talk/hear about food at all because it makes me feel sick.  So glad I'm not alone in this!
  • Same here! I've been rotating between applesauce, apples, and mashed potatoes while sprinkling in any type of protein I can stomach. Saltines and 7-Up/Sprite have become my new go-to as well. Made the mistake yesterday of hitting up Carl's Jr yesterday for a chicken sandwich and paid for it the rest of the day :/ It's like I can't win.
  • I had pretty severe nausea for a week and a half..could barely choke down water yet alone food. I couldn't get out of bed and would just lay there trying not to throw up 24/7 (I have a fairly strong stomach and despise vomiting). Aside from a weird, 5 hour period of reduced nausea, I was a wreck and getting worse every day.
I travel quite a bit for work and have a trip coming up in a few days where I will have several lunch and dinner meetings, so I broke down and called my doctor yesterday (and for the record..I tried everything: B6, Unisom, Sea Bands, Ginger everything, preggie pops, etc.) She put me on a low dose of Zofran to get me through this next week. Now I'm not generally an advocate of taking any drugs while pregnant (I even avoid Tylenol), this has been a lifesaver. I can eat. My body/baby are getting nutrition and fluids and I'm finally starting to feel like a real person again.
I most likely won't continue the pills after I return home from the work trip (hopefully nausea will subside by then..I'll be 9 weeks), but desperate times call for desperate measures! If you're not eating and especially not drinking fluids, call your doc before it gets serious!
  • Right there with you. Only thing that tastes good or even sounds good is pineapple, but I have GERD so I can't eat much of it without paying the price. :( I'll take aversions over nausea though. So far it hasn't hit for the most part.. here and there when I eat something that didn't sit well, but mostly normal tummy-wise. I remember forcing myself to eat when all systems were in "reverse"... so, yeah, I'll take the aversions gladly and pray it is my biggest issue.

  • Hi! With my last pregnancy I rejected everything for the first trimestre. I lost lot's of weight. However, and so that u all stay calm, the doctor said that it was fine! Eat what u feel like, there is no risk for the baby, since it's very small and doesnt need that many nutrients for now. Eat what u feel like!!! Mine was green apples last time. We'll see this time around!
