Severely light headed and dizzy anyone?

Out of nowhere I had to lie down on the floor of my office because my vision was going black, not sure if I was passing out or just really dizzy. I still don't feel great and it's been about 45 mins. Has this happened to anyone else? I know dizziness is normal but not sure what I should and should not worry about

Re: Severely light headed and dizzy anyone?

  • Besides checking with your doctors office, one thing that crossed my mind is making sure you've had enough water. I hear during pregnancy we can get dehydrated really fast and easy without realizing at first.

  • I will def try to drink a lot of water and see if that helps. I am seeing a high risk dr twice a week for low fluid so now I am so paranoid about every little thing. I am sure it is normal... I see it happens in pregnancy a lot online, but I just worry a lot now
  • I would give your doc a call, regardless of whether drinking water helps. They may want to give you a quick check anyway. Especially since you're high risk, while dizziness is normal, vision stuff isn't typical. It's better to be safe than sorry.

  • I get the woozies at least once a day anymore. It just happened this morning. I am religious about chugging water but I feel like I need even more these days (32w,4d)! In my birthing class they say if you drink coffee then you need to chase it with water as soda/coffe can dehydrate you which I find to be somewhat true.I also keep gatorade near by and sip on it a bit. Be sure to eat and snack as needed. I think it's all pretty common at this stage in the game - although I will admit scary. Definitely chat with your doctor about it if you are concerned.
  • I have this too when I get too hot - it's almost like the beginnings of a panic attack for me - and can happen out of nowhere (although I'm usually on the train to work). Definitely check with your doctor but I try to chug water, get myself seated, have a bite of a banana and take deep breaths until it passes. Definitely scary though when it happens although my doctor said it can be normal :(
  • Hi OP. This happens to me very frequently unfortunately. I would first suggest calling your Doc and making them aware. My doc is well aware that this happens to me and has taught me how to manage it before I end up passing out. When this happens to me it's because my blood pressure is low (despite drinking tons of water). I also feel awful after an epidose like that occurs. It's very tough on your body. I hope this helps. Talk to your doctor! =)
  • I had that happen in a prenatal yoga class at 16 weeks. Hasnt happened since, and I think it was dehydration. I would do an hour or two of self care (water, snack, rest) and if not feeling fully better, call the doctor.

  • I have this when I sit for too long or lie down on my back, almost passed out during an u/s. Obviously talk to your dr, but what I think mine is baby is cutting off my circulation and my heart has to work harder. That's what the u/s tech says can happen sometimes.
  • The causes for me are dehydration and not enough protein. Once I watched my carb vs protein intake it got so much better. But more recently I was having dizziness and feeling out of breath more then normal and found out my iron levels were dangerously low. If you tend to be anemic you may want to have that checked. But protein!!!
  • This use tO happened to me offend. But it was all because I wasn't drinking plenty of water and my nauseous while prevent me from eating right. I had to cut on all the juices and Pop. I just do water or milk. And do small snacks and meals .
  • I had the same problem with my iron levels being low I had severe chest pains and shortness of breath bad enough that my dr had me go to the ER and they ruled out the really bad stuff (blood clot) and think it has to do with me being very anemic. Also like PP said be sure to drink lots of water but as always check with your dr!

This happens to me quite a bit. I have talked to my OB about it and after having my GD test done, it showed that my blood sugar drops SUPER fast.  and then when I go to get up it causes me to be light headed and dizzy.  My OB told me I have to eat every 2 hours (just something small) and i need to be walking 30 minutes 4 times a week to help stabilize my blood sugar.

  • Thanks everyone! Glad to know I am. It alone!

I did go to the Hospital after fainting and they found very low blood sugar, the nurse said it looked as if I had been fasting for more than 24 hours, which I had eaten multiple times that day and had lots of protien less than 1 hr before the took my blood. They also said my blood pressure was low and my blood count was low. They let me go and told me to eat more often... So very irritating, I am very conscious of what I eat and how often and make sure I get a protien at each meal and snack. I called my dr because I started blacking out driving and had to pull over and she said I need to eat more food. This is so frustrating! I feel terrible, I am scared to drive, and I am being treated like I am anorexic or something! I do NOT care if I gain a million pounds, I just want my baby and I to be healthy!!! I wish they would take me seriously and give me some sort of thing to do that is different from what I am doing already!!!! Ahhhh, sorry rant is over.... I just really don't know what else to do at this point and wish someone would listen to me and help me with a plan!
  • I thought it might be the blood pressure. I'm being monitored and on special meds because mine is too high. They said if I feel dizzy or faint I need to call right away. I sure hope you feel better op!
  • This has happened to me a lot... First I'll start feeling a little overheated then I'll get short of breath and eventually I won't be able to stand or sit up and my vision is gone. I've passed out completely at least 4 times my whole pregancy and the only thing that helps us for me to find a way to cool down. I drink so much water though, it's been my only craving this whole time. So I'm not sure why this happens but it's annoying.
  • I do this when my sugar drops
  • I used to do this & found out my iron was too low. If I haven't taken my iron pill then I start to feel it coming on.
  • Happened to me today. My blood pressure was low, and they did a draw to check my thyroid and iron levels. It happened four hours ago and I still feel like ass :/

  • That's exactly how I felt but all I get from the doctor and nurses is plenty of water, sit down and focus on breathing when it happens, and keep some candy on hand. :/ I wasn't really happy with those answers but all my blood work came back fine and I was told blood pressure drops due to the extra fluids in the body, thus the candy or soda. I wish there was something else I could do.
  • For snacks have you tried combining a carb with a protein? Like apple and PB, Apple and cheese, Kind bars. I was diagnosed with GD and they want me to do a carb and protein to balance out the sugar.
  • I have had chronic dizziness since february and no one has any answers for me either... Its very frustrating and makes me anxious all the time so Dont feel like you are alone!! Im just hoping it goes away soon or at least right when baby is born because it is not fun to feel dizzy!! Grrr All i do is graze constantly and try to relax as much as possible! I hope u feel better soon!!
