Early glucose testing

I was just wondering I know that the doctor has you take the test when you're between 24-28 weeks. Do they ever do glucose screening any earlier than that like at 12 weeks or only if you are high risk?

    Yes they do. You don't have to be high risk for them to do it early.

    This is one of those things where there seems to be a lot of variation between providers. Your 24 week-ish screen, of course is standard practice, and I think it's also standard practice to do an early screen if there are risk factors present. But it also seems like several doctors are starting to include early screens in their standard prenatal care, even for low risk moms.

    It depends on your medical history & the doctor. Also, insurance coverage could matter.

    You can ask them their policy, check with your insurance & go from there. I know two moms that did 2 hour glucose challenge due to risk factors.

    My maternal fetal medicine doctor said it could be for many reasons. It could be regular diabetes, but it could also be a hormonal imbalance as well.

    @laurasuzanne2006 that's not 100% true! Just as pp stated there are different reasons why you get gd.
