  As a pediatrician in training to be a neonatologist- most babies born at this gestation do well long term. Baby may have to be in the nicu for a period of time & may need antibiotics but most do really well. The steroids help mature their lungs.

  Hi Sarah that's reassuring thank you.
  I feel confident he has had the steroid injections to help mature his lungs and I'm under the care of very good doctors/ midwives.
  
  As everyone says something different do you know how long it's safe for bubs to stay inside even with a ruptured membrane? I've been told it gets to risky after 34, 35 weeks.

  My sister had my nephew at 23 wks 4 days gestation after being on bedrest for 4 weeks with ruptured membranes.....this is obviously extreme but my nephew is an amazing 6 yr old now. 

  I would think at 34 weeks you are pretty safe especially since you got the steroid shots, in addition I think the main risk of ruptured membrane is infection so if they are making sure to limit and or not have any vaginal exams then I would think your risk is low.  They could also consider putting you on antibiotics to avoid infection but not sure that would be called for at 34 weeks gestation.

  My mom had PROM with me at 23 weeks and I was born at 39 weeks (sick but recovered quickly). I'm sure they're doing all they can to minimize infection, and your baby will be fine whenever you deliver at this point.
  
  But, as we say in midwifery school, nobody wants to go to the PROM.

  Thanks ladies it's always nice to hear re assuring stories. it's just very stressful and being in a hospital on strict bed rest makes it so much harder. Hopefully it will all be over soon and I will meet my baby boy x

  I delivered my son at 35w4d and he is now a perfectly healthy almost 6 year old! He weighed 4lb 2oz but I think he was just destined to be small as I am only 4'10" and my husband is around 5'5". He stayed in the Special Care Nursery (a step down from the NICU) for about a week after I was discharged just due to jaundice and getting more feeds. He is an athlete, just about a year ahead in reading, and an overall awesome kid, if I may say so myself. I'm sure your little one will be just fine! Sending positive thoughts and vibes your way.

  I ruptured at 33 weeks and delivered at 34. They usually say risk of infection greater than risk to baby and induce around 34 no matter what. He spent 16 days in the NICU just due to inability to eat on his own and couldn't keep himself warm. Be prepared for that at least but I got steroids and his lungs were fine. He is a very healthy 2 year old now. You are far enough along I truly believe it will be fine. Good luck!
