I'm finishing up buying the essentials but stuck on what to buy for bottle cleaning. ... which method will serialize bottles the best and is the quickest/easiest? A bottle sterilizer , hand wash with bottle brushes , microwave or dishwasher ?
A sterilizer for sure. I would hand was in hot water with a brush then sterilize all parts. Much easier and cleaner
Yes! Don't forget you do still have to wash them sufficiently before putting them in the sterilizer. I know it sounds like common sense, but I know people who didn't know, rinsed out chunks and sterilized dirty bottles. Needless to say it didn't smell good. I would recommend a sterilizer though.
I am weird about my dishes no matter what it is. I have a special dish soap for babies that I use with a bottle brush then I stick them in the dishwasher. Don't forget to keep your brushes sterilized too.
I'm in the less is more camp...I just used a pot of boiling water and it worked just fine. I did breastfeed though, so I didn't have many bottles to wash. If I were to use more bottles this time I would just use the dishwasher.
I boiled water in a pot and sterilized all bottle parts prior to using them. After that, I alternated between hand washing with dish detergent, putting them in the dishwasher, and using a microwave sterilizer. I don't think that sterilizing every time is necessary especially once baby gets a little older.
I sterilized everything before using. Then I mainly hand washed with honest co dish soap and occasionally I threw them in the dish washer (also with honest co dishwasher detergent).
I would hand wash and sterilize in the microwave. I had one by Avent that I loved!
This!
I used Avent bottles and this was a simple process for me. I also put the dried sterilized bottles in a plastic container. So when not in use anything floating in the air would stay out.
I was really anal as a FTM I did that process for about 9 months. This time around I'd probably do it for about 3-6 months.
I still after 2 years do this with first. It just keeps the bottles cleaner longer and not to get all dinghy. That way when 2nd child is ready for bottles they won't be too worn out. And yes my 2 year old still has her night milk in a bottle but since I don't leave with her all night pediatrician said it was ok. With being on my 2nd pregnancy I'm not doing to many changes until 1st shows she's ready.
We boiled the bottles in water before the first use, and hand washed from there on out. I breastfed but went back to work at 6 weeks so she got 4 bottles/day while I was at work of my pumped milk. The sitter made sure to rinse them when she was done, and then dh washed them at night.
We had a hospital stay with her when she was young due to a tummy bug and not yet having her 8 week old shots (any fever before shots gets you admitted). Anyways- while there, the NICU nurse told us that the child of a scientist at a famous lab was curious about dish soaps and bottles (plastic ones). He ran a test over a few months and wrote the hopsital to let them know his results- the one that did the least damage and cleaned the best was green palmolive. We were always devotees to blue dawn, but we keep a green palmolive in the kitchen for bottles and kids bowls and such. I don't know the details but they're both comparable so why not? Easy change for us.
