STM - Fell for false labor

I'm 40 weeks today and I was having contractions all afternoon yesterday (starting around 1:45pm). They got closer together (though they were a little irregular) and around 8pm they were averaging 5 minutes apart so we went to the hospital. I got all hooked up, but after an hour of monitoring I only had 2 contractions so they sent us back home. I'm so disappointed and a little embarrassed!
Anyone else have false labor before? How long after the false labor did you actually go into labor?

    This is my fourth pregnancy and I have been having start & stop labor for 2 weeks now. I have not gone to the hospital yet, but I have questioned if it was the beginning of true labor. I am waiting for it to truly increase in intensity from uncomfortable to painful. The frequency is definitely there, but not the severity.

    I've had two instances of what I thought was labor coming on, but didn't go to the hospital bc I didn't feel they wee strong enough contractions to stop me in my tracks yet and my water hadn't broken. (Side note: I only live 5 min from the hospital and my water never broke at home anyway.) however, with my first, I didn't know I was having contractions, so I went to find out why I had decreased movement, and they admitted me. They were about to schedule my epidural when the contractions just quit (2 weeks before I had her). I got sent home the next day.

    This is my third... I've had BH that start and are consistent and follow a "kinda sorta" pattern... Meaning they will be within a range... But I almost have to pay attention to catch them... Tightening and uncomfortable, but not intense... When they become intense and get more intense as well as closer together... That's go time...

    Don't feel bad. Yesterday I was having real and regular contractions 2-3 mins apart so my midwife sent me to the hospital...everything stalled out after being in the hospital 13 ish hours and I'm back home...no baby and only 5 cm dilated . The doctor on call did offer to induce, but since baby's head isn't fully engaged and
    sine I'm only 38 weeks today, I opted to go home and rest instead. My point...don't feel bad you could be in real labor when you arrive and still end up going home.
