Stm+ Going into labor already dilated

My last dr appointment I was 36 weeks and 1cm. Which is nothing i know but its still one less cm I'll have to do during labor! So I'm kinda hoping I'll be at 2 this week. I asked a doula how dilation effects labor. She said shes seen it cause it to be shorter or u can go into active labor faster since ur body as already done some if the work. With that being said for moms that were already dilated before labor started did u see any difference in your labors that u weren't or were less dilated? Just curious to see what other moms have experienced that actually have gone thru this :)

With Dd I was 2 cm when my water broke. 12 hours later baby.

With DS I was 4 cm when my water broke. 6 hours later baby.

Water breaking was first sign I was in labor with both kids.

  • I was 2 cm dilated, 80% effaced, and -1 station for two weeks before going into labor with DD. Then once I did go into labor, it was another 42 hours before she was born. My labor stalled for 10 hours at 9 cm. No meds. So for me, I don't think it made a difference.

Really hoping for a quicker labor this time!

  • With DS, I was 3 cm at 39 weeks and my water broke. I didn't progress very well, so they put me on pitocin and then things progressed quickly.  All in all, I was in labor for 12 hours and delivered vaginally.

Hoping to be in a similar situation for DD this time around...

  • I was 2 cm weeks before labor, labor began with contractions that the doc claimed were going on but I didn't feel, two days later I felt them but it was like consistently timed mild period cramps until the next day (4am) when they were full blown and I was at the hospital only 3cm dialated. They broke my water shortly before i gave birth around noon.
  • I was hospitalized with preterm labor at 33 weeks and was 2cm and 100% effaced. I went into labor nine days later and from waking up with my first painful contraction to her birth was seven hours. It went really quickly and was a really good experience.
  • With my son I was dilated to 3 and it took 23 hours, with my daughter I was 0 and 50%, she took 3 hours, way nicer actually lol

I hope u do too! 42 hours is a long time. I'm planning for med free so gives me hope that if ppl can have long labors and do it so can I.

I was 3cm dilated at 36 weeks in my last pregnancy and my Dr. ended up having too induce me at 41 weeks 6days, I stayed stuck at 6cm for nearly 12 hours and then finally after 22 hrs of labor, my baby girl was born!!! I'm hoping I can cut that time in half this time around, we'll see!
