Freaking ... Out !

It's probably nothing but I'm almost 37 weeks (tomorrow I will be) and my doctor is going to be out of state for a week next week for hunting season x.x I'm 2 cm dilated and 60% effaced as of Thursday. I know that doesn't tell you how long you've got but I'm freaking out! Lol what if baby Boy decides he wants to come say hello next week?! I won't have my doctor!!! He told me "If you go into labor, cross your legs really hard and keep that boy in there cause I'm turkey hunting!!" Haha typical man! (He's a very fun, funny, playful doctor. By far the best I've ever seen!) But ah!

I know it's hard since you want your doctor, but I wouldn't worry too much about it since you'll be spending way more time with the nursing staff than your actual doctor. If you have any kind of birth plan in mind that you've talked with him about, just make sure to document that, so if you have someone else, they'll know what you guys were thinking.

I go to a practice with over 10 doctors, however I've only seen one doctor. The chances of her delivering my baby are slim. Especially since I just found out that she's taking off the week of my due date.

With that said, you barely see your doctor during delivery. I barely remember the doctor being there for my first. You spend most of your time with the nurses anyway. If he's not there, it will be OK. I promise.

Yep - the nurses and *you* will do most of the work anyway! The nurses helped me all through labor / pushing / etc. I was shocked at how my doctor simply waltzed in at the end and did the final steps!

If it makes you feel better I'm not even sure who is delivering my baby. We have a date and time set, but not sure who my doctor will be. I was told today it depends who is on the rotation at the time. It doesn't really matter who is delivering you...just that your baby gets here safe.

You barely talk with the doctor. Most of the time they will come check on you and show up when your ready to push. I wouldn't worry too much about it. Most people don't deliver with their actual doctors anyway.

I feel the same way... Unless we schedule me to be induced (something I'm not interested in unless I go over due) my doc might not deliver DS either which freaks me out a bit. I've talked to her about my birth plan and her normal protocol for things not the others in the practice, but I guess it's normal and there's not much I can do but hope she's on call. Getting baby here, regardless of who catches him is the important part, right?

There are several doctors in my practice - who I get depends on who's on duty that day. They make sure you've met each of them at least once, though.
But like others have said, you don't see much of the doctor. I think last time she checked in with me twice (once at the beginning to say hello, once to tell me I wasn't in enough pain and we needed Pitocin to move things along) before the actual delivery. Didn't really see too much of the nurses, either. Most of the time it was me and DH.

I had to be induced since my son was 5 days late. And my Dr was at the hospital the entire time I was in labor. At midnight was the end of her shift she came in introduced me to the Dr taking her shift and told me she would come back tomorrow to check on me. I ended up having to have a c-section due to dropping Bp and they had to take me off of my petocin. The Dr that took over was the best high risk Dr in the tricity area, I was lucky to have him. My bp dropped to 60/80 I should have been asleep during and after my surgery due to it. But something about getting to see your baby makes your body power through it. Everything works out in the end and you will have a happy healthy baby and that's what matters.

There is a good chance he wouldn't be there even if he were in town. It's great you like your doctor, but reality is you have to get used to the idea that he may not deliver your baby. It may be the on call doctor

It's true that you don't see your doctor all that much when you are in labor, but I would be upset too if a different doctor delivered my baby. There is just a doctor/patient bond and established trust that would be missing. Good luck and I hope baby boy stays in for ya!

I am also going to a clinic with several doctors. They've had me meet all of them at least once. Love them all except one. Paranoid it will be that one doctor I really dislike on call when I delivery. He seemed incompetent. Understand your frustration. But like others have said, it's mostly the nurses you will be seeing.

You're fine. You have to remember doctor's have lives also (and we want them to so they're not overworked when they see us). a competent doctor will deliver your baby whenever your baby decides to come. Don't stress over something you can't control.

lol. It's kinda out of a movie. I am picturing your doctor with a whiskey and cigar when he tells you he's going turkey huntin so keep your legs crossed. haha

But really- that sucks, bc you like him. Though from my experience- when you're pushing a human out of your lady bits, you don't give a crap WHO is down there. All you care about is your vagina and the baby. Soooo try not to stress too much.
