February 2015 Moms

always sleeping

My DD is 6 weeks and 2 days, is it normal for her development to be always sleeping every after feeding...i am breastfeeding her..she just had 2-hr nap, breastfeed her, then sleep again..i am just curious.. Thanks moms!

Re: always sleeping

  • She should sleep for around 16-18 hours a day. If you're concerned, ask your pediatrician. As she gets older you'll notice more alert time.

  • Right around that time (6 weeks-ish) my DD started to sleep less and less. Now I'm lucky if she naps once or twice a day (she's 9 weeks). Cherish the daytime naps while you can!
  • My little girl is awake for about 8-10 hours a day, but its broken. She'll sleep about 8 hours during the night (which I absolutely love!) And then nap periodically throughout the day. Sometimes its for a few hours, other times its just a few minutes. As they get older their alert time starts to stretch further and further into the day. Napping after every feeding isn't uncommon. The women in my local moms group call it a "milk or feeding coma"
