Warmer Weather + Chubb Chafe

Ok ladies I'm back from my brief Bahamian getaway. While wonderful, relaxing and painfully sober as it was I realized that my dreams of maxi dress/ skirt season will come with a price. The price being chub chafe... the illustrious sensation of my upper thighs rubbing together and causing a painful fire between my legs. I tried my usual tricks of baby powder and deodorant and it just wasn't hacking it for longer than an hour. So I'm now researching short shorts I can wear underneath dresses and skirts to avoid dealing with this feeling till late june. Anyone have any favorites? As of now my best option is looking like the $20 shaper from destination maternity. I'll probably bite the bullet and order a pair or 2 to make it through the summer but i figured if you guys had any other tricks, I'd be happy to entertain my other options. I've heard there's a monistat chafe gel that might be good but I'm thinkin' shorts might be my best bet for my long commute + going for walks.

Let's hear 'em ladies!

Re: Warmer Weather + Chubb Chafe

  • As someone who suffers from chub rub, I swear by the Monistat anti chafe gel. You may need to reapply during the super sweaty days or use the shorts you plan to by. Glad you had fun on your vacation!

  • Ugh, I'm just commiserating - last summer we were in Milwaukee and walked from our hotel to the museum, I was wearing shorts but they were meant for men - super low slung and the fabric for the crotch met just below where my thighs did. Major chafe-age. So annoying. I didn't even know about the product mentioned above, will totally look into it now

  • The chub rub struggle is real. I dont know why i forgot that it would likely be worse during pregnancy. major fail not preparing for that on the trip. I found even the short walks around the resort got pretty painful the nights i was wearing skirts, which is particularly sad because it was the evneing and i wasnt really sweaty at all lol.

I'll definitely pick up the monistat gel and see if any ladies have any other shorts recommendations before i pull the trigger and buy the shaper on destination maternity. Thanks ladies!
  • Ooh I have the chub rub NOT pregnant: I feel you girl :)
  • I saw some jockey underwear at kohls the other day that may work. I hate it too! I wish I could just buy some of those bike shorts from the 80s to wear underneath
  • I've been a long time sufferer of chub rub. I've heard Body Glide works wonders as well. Basically, any of the anti-chafe products you can find in the running section of sporting goods stores.

  • I use Between the Sheets- it's a powdered base linen spray, but it's saved me from painful chubrub.
  • DH works outside and has huge thighs. He chafes really bad in the summer. He has found that under Armour underwear help prevent chafing. The ones he wears are basically the equivalent of sliding shorts without padding. They're pretty pricy at $20 a pair but I've seen other brands of the same material for cheaper at Kohls. They ones he wears come in a 3, 6, or 9 in inch inseam. You might look into something like that. I can't believe we spend that much on underwear, but it's worth it for him not to be miserable. There's also some powder called anti-monkey butt that works pretty well, I don't know where you live but you can get it online if no stores near you have it. We found it at Tractor Supply
  • Under Armour boxer briefs are the best-- they are expensive but so, so well worth the price for the manfriend.
  • BLESS YOU LADIES! I'll definitely look into the under armour boxers briefs. seems like it would be so much more comfortable than a maternity shaper. There's only so many belly panels a girl can handle once summer hits.
  • I heartily recommend picking up some Body Glide.  It comes in a stick that looks like deodorant.  In the summer, I keep it in my purse at all times.  Just a quick swipe, and you will be chafe free.  You can get it at specialty running stores, Dick's Sporting Goods, Sports Authority, online, etc.  Also great for preventing blisters on heels.
