Any must read parenting books?

I'm sure this has been asked before, but for some reason nothing is pulling up when I search. Are there any parenting books about the newborn - first year stage that you recommend?

Re: Any must read parenting books?

  • There's a "What to Expect" book for the first year. I've been finding it pretty informative.

  • I haven't actually read it yet, but 'The Happiest Baby on the Block' has been recommended to be several non-related sources, including my pediatrician's office, the woman who taught our child care class, and a good friend. So I just picked up a copy. :) I've also heard that 'Bringing Up Bebe' is good.

  • I would recommend the Happiest Baby on the Block and Calm the Crying: The Secret Baby Language that Reveals the HIdden Meaning Behind an Infant's Cry by Priscilla  Dunstan
  • Ditto to the previous posters.  There's also a Happiest Baby on the Block DVD that we checked out at the library. It was so much quicker than reading the book - and some of the tips did work for us  (like the sideways hold & and "shhhh"-ing).

  • If you are breastfeeding, I would recommend The Womanly Art of Breastfeeding from the La Leche League. I also got some good tips from Secrets of the Baby Whisperer by Tracy Hogg.

I read Babywise and Happiest Baby on the Block. Definitely recommend both. I'm also reading one now called Happy Sleeper (or something like that).

Bringing Up Bebe. I'm not quite done but I love it so far.
