Natural Remedy to prevent hemorrhoids

I think I may have had a small bout with hemroids during my last pregnancy and treated it right away with OTC cream. Last night, I had a horrble experience with them. At first I thought I just needed to make a BM, but felt a lump, so I put on a topical cream, but it didnt work. More time passed and the pain got worse and worse. It moved from outside to inside and became unbearable! It felt like I'd been cut by razors inside my anus everytime I moved. I finally found relief after I sent my husband to the store for suppositories. I NEVER want to experience that again in my life. Any natural remedies to orevent this from happening again??

Re: Natural Remedy to prevent hemorrhoids

  • Oh my!! I've got that (I think) but it doesn't really hurt other than the occasional times during a BM but then it's pain free right after. So maybe I dont? I'm really not sure. <_< but I'm sorry you're going through that and that I can't offer any help! But I have read that which hazel (I can't remember what it's called) is something that helps

  • I've had that razor feeling during bowel movements but never just from moving. I ended up getting surgery for it which was a life saver! I don't have any answers for you, but I can sympathize with you. I'll be watching this thread for tips! Good luck!
  • No natural remedies, unfortunately. I had to have a steroid ointment for mine because the pain was unbearable after it thrombosed. If you wanna go the most natural route, sitz baths with Epsom salts and witch hazel will offer some relief (also small ice packs can numb and shrink it a bit).
  • The best prevention is to make sure you are getting things in your diet to help minimize constipation. I've been dealing with this ever since my first pregnancy and can say that prevention really does work, given a little time.

Probiotics (supplements containing the same bacteria that are in yogurt), or, just eat a daily yogurt.

Really focus on high fiber foods like getting your 5-a-day with fruits and veggies, and good high-fiber grains like oats/wheat/quinoa (which are all excellent for you and baby in other ways too)

As always, get plenty of fluids!

And the kicker - drink something nice and hot in the mornings to get things rolling in there. Doesn't have to be coffee, just hot. Tea or lemon water or even hot oatmeal work for me too.

  • The main ingredient in most of the over the counter products IS witch hazel, so I think you'll be getting a natural remedy even if you break down and buy some tucks pads.
  • Unfortunately existing hemorrhoids will stay until treated or surgically removed. Prevention and soft BM's only why.
Prune juice work wonders and of course fiber intake & water . I ate fruits throughtout which help tremendously.

Glycerine suppositories prior to BM another way to go!
  • I recommend the Epsom salt baths and also some essential oil blends or just lavender will do. Applying it right on the area. It should help some.

  • Thanks you guys. After talking to my midwife, she suggested staying hydrated and getting more fiber in my diet. I had been constipated a few days prior and didn't link the two. The warm baths and witch hazel pads, plus suppository at night, combo worked. I've been pain free ever since. I will not EVER allow myself to become constipated again to prevent that from happening!
  • I have had them really bad with this pregnancy and not just because of constipation. If I stay on my feet or go up and down stairs or bend up and down a lot, they will flare up. The only thing that has worked for me is staying off my feet as much as possible. Applying preparation h cream and lying down is the only thing that has helped me. I agree that it is one of the most painful experiences! They have gotten much better in the last few weeks, but for a while it hurt me to even walk normally because they were so bad!
  • Bragg's apple cider vinegar!!! Get a tablespoon a day, whether you mix it will something or drink a spoonful. That will help a lot! And you can put some on a cotton pad or some tissue and hold it on them. It will sting for a minute, but goes away and feels much better and made mine totally bearable by the next day.
