Later in life pregnancy...any 40 and over moms-to-be?

I'm a FTM at 41...I have seen a lot of younger moms in this birth month club, and am wondering if there are any other 40+ moms here. I am finding that my experience is somewhat different being an older FTM and would love to connect with other older moms.

  • I'm 38, so pretty close in age. I have a 16 month old daughter now. It was difficult at first to adjust to caring for her (maybe because I'd had so many years not doing that?) but now I think there are mostly advantages. I'm more patient now than I would have been I think. I don't focus on the more superficial things my younger self would have. That said, I feel tired a lot. It got WAY easier after the baby turned 1 and I stopped pumping and she was sleeping better. Overall, motherhood is no joke!

  • I'm 40 expecting my third child, and its my rainbow.  I have a happy healthy 9 year old, and then lost my second at 35 days of age this past November.  Right at 11 weeks or so now with number 3.  Completely terrified, but not because of my age.  Just wanted to say yeah there are others of us out here who are still in the mommy game.  Most of my 40+ friends have college age kids and some with grand babies.  Totally feel like I'm the late bloomer of the group since I have an elementary aged child and still putting out babies.  Most of my friends look at me like I have lost my mind, but I don't feel old, so why should I adhere to their timeline of when to stop having children :) I normally don't post as most of the moms are so much younger and I find the things they worry about/discuss, are just not an issue to me. Hope you two are well!!  Here's to enjoying 9 months of healthy pregnancies all around.  :)
  • I'm 39 (will be 40 in 2 months) and a FTM.  My first pregnancy ended in a miscarriage last August at 6 weeks along.  I'm 12 weeks 2 days now.  It's nice to know I'm not the only older FTM in this group!  :)

  • I'm 37 years old with 3 children from 14 to 20 years old and now one on the way. I'm 9wks 2 days and my worries are more about abnormalities. I am scheduled for informaseq test and follow up with indepth ultrasound with geneticist in 4 wks. I'm so nervous!!!!
  • 42 FTM here. Not much of a poster but just wanted to let you know we are out there!
  • It's so great to see so many older moms here! I hope everyone is having healthy pregnancies.

  • 38 Years old
  • I am 42:-) Will be almost 43 when my baby is born. I have 4 teenagers who are having a hard time adjusting to the news.
  • 39. Will be 40 at delivery. Have a friend who's delivering at age 45! We get tired more, but I feel so much more practical than younger moms. The biggest difference so far between now and when I had my Ds five years ago are the amount of tests. Totally overwhelming.
  • I'm 39 but will be 40 when the baby is due. Also a FTM! I just wasn't mature enough in my 20s and early 30s to have a kid and I hadn't met "the one" until about 6 years ago. We have been trying for 2 years. I had two surgeries last year (fibroid and polyp removal) and a miscarriage in November at 7 weeks. It's been a ride to get to this point and I know it would have been easier if I hadn't waited but this is how it was supposed to happen. I'm ready now and something tells me everything is going to OK. I'm excited to be on this journey with all you ladies!
  • I'm 40 and also a ftm. We were just waiting to see what happen for 2 year and I said when I turned 40 I was going back on the pill. 2 weeks after I turned 40 I found out I was pregnant (happy be - lated bdays). Actually I wasn't very happy (Im happy now). I had already been set on not having kids and thing at work are a bit chaotic. My partner is in school so we are a single income family. Lots of pressure. Still no idea how to tell work. I'm on a good track for a promotion at the end of the year and I'm really afraid this will impact that.

So I know later in life pregnancy is supposed to be more difficult, but today is a good day. I made it past week 12, and both the NT test and genetic tests came back normal...whew...now I can breathe easier. Oh, and the genetic test revealed that we are having a girl! Yay!!! So for the first time since I found out I am pregnant at 41, I can be truly happy without any reservations...at least for a while.

  • Hello there... I'm 39 and 12.5 weeks today. All genetic tests came back A+ and we are having a boy-really excited and relieved, as my nerves were shot b/c of age! Everyone seems super focused on the age thing...it's not like we are senior citizens! My daughter is in college now, so it's been 20 years for me since having a LO around. Very grateful and it really is a pleasure to meet you all. Lucky to have each other

Congratulations Benson30! I didn't realize how on edge I was waiting to make it past week 12 and waiting for the genetic results until I got the all clear. Yesterday was the first day that I was able to breathe easy and openly speak about being PG, but boy was I exhausted...probably from finally letting go of all my worry. I think for me, my age worried me because of my past experience with IVF and having only 1 out of 8 embryos test genetically normal...that and past docs telling me that my eggs are old which is likely to lead to abnormalities. So far, other than exhaustion and some mild nausea on and off, this pregnancy has gone very well. Here's to continued good heath for us and our little ones!

  • Hi, I am 42 and FTM. I will be 43 when the baby is born.
  • I am 38, will be 39 when baby is born. 10 weeks now , so excited can't wait to get my bump n start feeling baby
  • I'm turning 39 next week and FTM. Other than the problem of trying for two years and going through a miscarriage I think waiting was the better choice for me. Work is finally at a good spot, life is more secure, feel I will be a much more patient and appreciative parent than I would have before. Enjoying every second of being pregnant, even the unpleasant stuff. :) my dr rolled his eyes when he told me I was technically of "advanced maternal age". Happy thoughts for all us "old" mommies!
  • Hi! I'm 39/FTM as well. I'll be 40 two weeks after my due date! We were also casually trying, but knew we had had to make a "Yes, we're trying" or "No, we're not" decision within the next few years when we got our happy news :) I also feel like we are at a great point in our marriage and careers to have this baby. Much better than we would have been even 5 years ago.

I'm 11w5d now, have my NT scan on Wednesday, nervous but also very excited...trying to remember that the odds of having a healthy pregnancy are higher than not, but the nerves just creep up sometimes! We are also opting for InformaSeq after the scan.

Will be so relieved to see that little bean on the screen again! Saw the heartbeat at 6w1d and have had hardly any symptoms during the entire 1st trimester, so I can't wait to see the bouncing baby!
  • I'm 14 weeks and 40. This is my first one and so far all testing is good. I never knew but my grandma had her last two at 40 and 43 and that was before all the advances in medicine. I still have fears that something can go wrong but I am hoping we have strong eggs in my family.
  • Hello all! I am 38 now and will be 39 when this little baby arrives. I have a beautiful three almost 4-year-old little girl. I have been totally freaked out about this pregnancy even though it's my second. The doctor made it very clear and my second doctors appointment that I needed to get all of the genetic testing done and blood test done because "old eggs spoil". She totally had me feeling guilty that if something is wrong with this baby it was gonna be my fault. Likely I got the test results back yesterday and everything was fine and I found out that we're having a little boy which was a major adjustment but my husband absolutely thrilled and I am totally warming up to the idea
  • Hi I'm a FTM. I'm 43 and will be 44 God willing by the time my baby is born. It's good to know I'm in good company with other moms who are in their forties.
  • Im 38 and this is my rainbow baby...I'm 14 weeks!
  • I'm a 2nd time mom at 39 (40 in May).  I  have a daughter who will be 12 when the baby gets here.  Currently 14 weeks.. Excited and nervous all at the same time!
  • So I'm 36 but still considered the dreaded "advanced maternal age" according to my doctors. I definitely feel like part of the older mom crowd this time. I also have a 12 year old so I was part of the younger mom crowd back then too. It's totally different being pregnant at this age than it was my first time around that's for sure.
  • I'm 42 now.. 43 at delivery. .. i have 3 children from a previous marriage, the youngest of which will be 20 in oct, and a 16 month old granddaughter. I am also obese. .so I have that to worry about too... NTscan and genetics blood work on Tuesday... praying everything is ok. Glad to see I'm not the only "old lady" around here!
  • I'll be 41 in June. 13 weeks pregnant after suffering 2 miscarriages since July. Had my DNA blood test, and so far all is well!
  • ccdrozd - congrats! Our stories are so similar. I am 41 too. My husband and I have been trying for 4 years and suffered 2 miscarriages before this pregnancy. I wish you all the best!

  • I'm 38 and my birthday is around my due date-so I might be 39 when the baby comes. :)

I've declined all the genetic testing. I just feel like the hype about advanced maternal age is not worth getting bent out of shape for. I am really watching what I eat and monitor my blood pressure. Here's to a healthy pregnancy and baby!
  • 37 years old here and this is my first pregnancy, became pregnant the weekend I turned 37.  Good to see there are other ladies around my age in this group!
  • I am 40 and this will be #3. I have two teenaged sons. I will be 41 when I deliver. Currently 13 weeks and awaiting genetic testing results.
