Irritating rib pain!!!! Need help :(

Hi ladies,

So for the last couple of days my daughters kicking and punching of my right ribs are actually starting to hurt and irritate me.. wahh! Apparently this starts to go away once she starts to descend more. Wondering if anyone else has this problem and knows a good way to relieve pain? I googled and seen hot bath and hot pack which I did both but they don't work all that well. I'll be seeing my midwife next week and hopefully she can help me but for now I'm hurting :(

  • I had this in both pregnancies. It is painful and there's really not much you can do. Do your best to stretch out and give the baby room to stretch herself. I usually put my right arm above my head and have my right arm touch my left shoulder. It stinks but not much you can do. I would stay away from the heat, too. That's just what my chiro told me. I have no idea if there's any research or facts or anything, but he just warned to be careful with heat and not use my heating pad while pregnant bc it can heat up the uterus and make baby uncomfortable.

  • Well google has failed me yet again! Ahhh such a shame there's nothing that can be done it's getting so sore.. All well only 5 1/2 weeks to go left.
  • You should never take a hot bath or use a heating pad while pregnant!!!
  • I am also starting to get this! It can be very annoying! Sometimes I drink some water and walk around, try and get my LO to move around a bit. Unfortunately, they are just running out of room. Luckily we are now toward the end!

  • The whole saying that you can't use a heating pad is an old wives tale. Still use heat wisely (heating pads/hot bath) so it doesn't raise your body temp too high is the biggest worry.

My friend had issues with baby kicking the ribs. Try using an ice pack for a short while on the sore spot.
  • Thanks for the advise ladies.. I don't use very hot bath water I'm not silly. With the hot pack I wrapped it in a tea towel to make sure it wasn't too hot
  • I had horrible rib pain with my son. My husband is a PT and I made him check if my ribs were broken that's how sore I was. I'm pretty certain they were bruised. I used ice on my ribs and a heat pack near my groin to encourage the baby to move away from my ribs. Tylenol too. Hope you feel better!

  • I used a heating pad religious on my lowback when I pulled a muscle a few months back and the baby is just fine! My Dr even recommended it.

As far as your rib kicks-you might have a soccer star on your hands!
  • You can take a hot bath because the water doesn't stay hot, it starts to cool as soon as you turn off the water. You shouldn't use a jacuzzi or a hot tub because they stay the same temperature. I wouldn't have survived pregnancy this long without hot baths.

True! My son does kick a mean soccer ball. ;)

  • Yeah my ribs are feeling bruised I keep laying to other side hoping she shifts on over.. Hopefully my midwife can fix everything but most likely not! .... Shouldn't be surprised as DH used to be a pro boxer she's probably just practising ;)
  • I'm pretty sure I bruised or hurt a rib with this last horrible cold I had. I was coughing all day and so hard. I'm getting better but still coughing and it hurts so bad!!! Is there a point of rib pain I should be worried?
