Baby's skin shedding

any one else's baby shedding skin like crazy? I know it's normal but it's just kinda gross at this point lol. He's 11 days and when I take off his clothes a cloud of little skin particles rains down. And his bassinet sheets have to be changed daily because of the skin. I don't remember it being this bad with my DD. He was much more over due than my daughter was at birth so maybe the longer time in the womb did it? I try and keep him moisturized but it doesn't seem to be helping at all... Oh well. Could be WAY worse right ? :)

Re: Baby's skin shedding

  • My son is doing the same thing. Everytime I hold him, I get covered in his flaky skin! He was close to 2 weeks overdue so I thought that had something to do with it too.

  • @MrsZ1891 yeah his due date put him at 41.2 but when he was born the midwife said she was pretty sure he was much closer to 2 weeks over due. So maybe that is what is causing the excess shedding. Hopefully it passes soon!
  • My daughter's feet are the worst part...even the bottom is all flakey...it was so bad that i went and got some baby oil gel to put on them.
  • Yes! My baby was overdue also and it's gross. I can't wear black which is my favorite (most slimming!) color without looking like I have dandruff all over me!

What kind of lotions or oils are you girls using?? My first child had/has VERY sensitive skin so I prefer to stay away from things with chemicals, (even Johnson and Johnson made him break out!) so I'm very hesitant to know what to try on new baby...
  • @EricandKaren I've been using "Shea Moisture" baby product line . I'm really liking the calming comfort healing lotion by them. Coconut oil is always a less expensive and just as great alternative! I just love the smell of the healing lotion. Smells SO YUMMY!! :D
  • I have taken to avoiding the use of soap for every other bath (she's still getting sponge baths) and only bathe her three times per week to begin with. I clean her hair with soap, but make sure I rinse and dry it really well as she gets cradle cap if I don't. It's not like she gets too dirty as a newborn anyway. Some of the lotions just cause more dryness, too. I use Aveeno baby products, but they are also drying after frequent use. Dry skin is normal in most newborns, but the natural oils the skin produces is far more effective than any baby skin care products.
  • I use the aveeno skin repair lotion on DS.
