braxton hicks or labor?

I've heard that Braxton hick don't usually hurt and aren't regular as labor contractions are. I'm 27 weeks tomorrow, and for the passed two-three weeks I've been having contracts, my doctor told me that it was regular Braxton hicks, but today, starting about 20-30 minutes ago I started having contractions so I sat down to relax as I was up walking around, but they are still going and are painful. It starts out with my stomach just getting tight, then the pain starts from the bottom and goes up. It lasts about 25-30 seconds and comes every minute or two, I'm just not completely sure if Braxton hicks could be painful as it's different for everyone or if they could last this long. My doctor doesn't have a number I could call, I would just have to go to the hospital or wait until tomorrow and call his office. Has anyone ever had painful Braxton hicks?

Re: braxton hicks or labor?

  • If they are painful and that close together, I would go to the hospital. It's easier for them to stop labor the earlier you go in.

  • Completely agree with @jesselayne8 I would much rather go to the hospital and have them tell me that they are just BH's than not go in and find out I was actually in labor. Don't take a chance, if they are painful and regular, go get checked out. T&P
