candy and caffeine

Is eating too much caffeine and candy will hurt the baby or cause the baby to be born with jitters or ADHD ? I'm curious because that's what my mom and aunt told me and I've been worried because I drink pop alot.

Re: candy and caffeine

  • Do some research, talk to your doctor if you're worried, but I'm pretty sure you're ok. One if that was an issue your doctor would've restricted you from caffeine and sugar. And two, adhd is not caused by what you eat. It's not the best source, but a quick reader friendly source to maybe ease your mind a little til you can do your own research

  • Caffeine and too much sugar are not ideal. Try and limit it a bit, you probably know if you are having too much.

  • Make sure you're eating plenty of dairy to replace calcium lost from the caffeine, and make sure you're drinking enough water to stay hydrated. Those are really the 2 biggest concerns with too much caffeine. But no, caffeine doesn't cause ADHD, however, when the baby comes, if you nurse, caffeine in your milk supply could cause the baby to be jittery and not sleep well.
  • Moderation is key. I sometimes binge on sweets and I have a Diet Coke habit that I have a very hard time controlling.

I have gotten lectured in public by strangers that I shouldn't be drinking Diet Coke because I'm hurting my baby. A little caffeine is okay. Just be sure you're drinking enough water. Oh, and ignore the comments of people who are not your medical professionals.

It's socially unacceptable to tell an overweight person to put down a donut but people feel compelled to comment on what pregnant women put in their bodies. If I'm not smoking, drinking or doing drugs then leave me alone.

This turned into a rant but the bottom line is that if your doctor is unconcerned about your pregnancy and you are progressing nicely without issues then anyone else with an opinion doesn't matter.
  • @marthaudani I had a waitress straight up refuse to serve me a diet coke! She was ok with me having a regular coke though(?). I wanted to leave, but DH was starving so he just gave me his and mentioned something to the manager before we left. I know she had good intentions but seriously?!?

Yeah as long as your dr says it's ok and you are comfortable with it, eat what you want.
