Newborn photos

Are you planning to hire a photographer to capture newborn photos of your LO?  If so, did you buy anything special for your little one to wear?  And if you're planning to appear in some photos, what are you going to wear?

With DD1, I didn't buy any special outfits (just a couple of cute headbands) and we did mostly naked pics of her and I'm thinking of doing the same for DD2.  As for me, I remember struggling to find something to wear at 1 week postpartum since maternity clothes didn't really fit anymore and neither did my pre-pregnancy clothes.  I keep thinking that maybe I should buy something to wear for our family photos but I have no idea what style or size clothes to buy.  Hoping your ideas can get me on track!

Re: Newborn photos

  • Our photographer has many props for newborns so we will just show up with baby.
As for what I will wear, I'm also unsure. Probably something dark without vertical lines or tight. Maybe a size bigger then what I was pre pregnancy.

  • I'm just going to get the pictures they do at the hospital. I'm currently working on a fancy tulle dress for her in a seafoam green :)
  • I bought some fuzzy white fabric for a cloud look and a string of white Christmas lights and made a halo for an angel nude pic of her. I also found some really cute crocheted sets at Target I added to my registry and purchased my favorite one. They are a headband/hat, booties, and a diaper cover. I have many many ideas for newborn pics but the props are a little expensive.

I'm doing some of my own at home. I have a pretty good camera. Professional photos are just not in the budget right now. I'm doing mostly naked pics with a few special , sentimental props to add in. I won't be in the pics but if I were going to be , I'd be wearing black for sure! Lol

We've hired a photographer and I will also be taking some at home. I made two bows and bought one, but prefer the naked baby ones with all the props our photographer has.
  • I wanted to hire a photographer with DD and DH didn't, so we compromised and went to Picture People in the mall. We had a bunch of props and outfit changes but my favorites were her just naked. I ended up thinking the props and such looked ridiculous whereas the simple naked ones just looked pure and amazing. We decided to take this LO to the same place to be fair. The fairness thing is already starting!

  • I booked a photographer. I didn't with my first DD as I was much more broke then. Still seems like a big expense for pictures but I've decided to splurge. Big sis is allowed to get in on some and we will probably get one of all of us. I have no idea what I'm wearing and don't even want to think about it! Lol. The photographer has tons of props so I'll probably just bring a few head bands and a crocheted hat I have. My friend just took her baby to this same lady and they turned out great. I'm excited!
