how soon after losing mucus plug....

I lost my mucus plug tonight (at 36w2d). I know this is not always a sign that labor is about to start, but I was curious what everyone's experience was with this. Did it build back up, or did you go into labor after losing it?

Re: how soon after losing mucus plug....

  • I lost mine today also! I am 36 weeks 4 days. I have heard it just depends but usually 2-3 weeks. But I also read that some people go into labor the very next day! I think it's different for everyone!

  • I lost mine the day I went into labor with my daughter.

  • I'm pretty sure I lost mine like 3 different times or lost it in 3 different amounts, I'm also 4 cm and 50% effaced tho. And noticed that I lost some after being in the hospital.
  • How much did you lose? I've lost parts of mine daily for a couple weeks now! I don't even remember losing it (even in labor) with my last. I just remember the bloody show!
  • It totally depends. it could still be weeks, could be days. You might lose more. You could be in labor within hours.
It's another sign that soon, you'll be having your baby but isnt a good indicator of when.
That said, it's s great time to make sure you have a bag packed & car seat installed. :)
  • I lost mine at 9 am saturday with dd#1 and then at 12am sunday I was admitted for active labor. So mine was within hours. Everyone is different.

  • Lost mine on Friday (36 wks 4 days) and no signs of labor just yet...
  • I wish we were equipped with one of those buttons that turkeys have when they're done cooking.
Some people like the element of surprise, but I don't lol.

  • The first time around it didn't happen until I was actually in early labor and knew this was probably 'it' anyway.

This time I've been losing little bits for a few weeks now. Unless you are having other signs of impending labor, definitely don't take the plug by itself as meaning the time is nigh.

I lost a large part of mine this morning..kinda freaked me out to be honest. Have an appointment today and a cervical check, hopefully I'm dialating?? Ugh we will see.
  • I'm 34 weeks this week. How do you know when you lose your mucus plug?. This is my first pregnancy.. Love to know for future references.

I know everyone says this, but you WILL know. When you wipe it looks like you blew your nose, it's nearly identical to snot. Now with that said, you can lose it when your water breaks, so you may never see it, but if you do, you will know what it is.
