Crib ideas?

i have been looking at cribs and reviews for hours! My brain is a jumbled mess. Any opinions? We are thinking of a white crib.

Re: Crib ideas?

  • I'm getting a convertable crib and matching dresser. The crib goes from a crib, to a toddler bed, to full head board. I won't have to worry about new furniture for years. They are cheap pieces, so I'm sure by the time they start wearing out my kid will be at the age of coloring on things and destroying them so it won't matter anyways lol. Then once it matures a little I can buy nicer stuff.
Color depends on your nursery theme. I'm probably going to get white.

  • White cribs are cuter, but I don't really like beds that are white, so for convertable cribs, I'm thinking of an espresso or slate color. I like the cribs at Bambi Baby the best so far.
  • I ordered a white mod style crib from buy buy baby but still waiting for it to be shipped. It's like 4-1 or something but I'm not sure if we'll use it for the full size bed or not.

  • I got an entire bedroom set for DS2 at Burlington Coat Factor for a great price. Convertible Crib , 2 dressers (one we double as a changing table) and a book case. We ended up getting espresso color because we figured it went better with the jungle theme I had going on and as he got older I figured he wouldn't want white. If we have a girl this time I'm leaning towards the white furniture.
  • I am looking at getting a white, convertible crib too, but I'm not sure we will wind up using it as a full sized bed. I think it could hold up, but if it doesn't, then I dont want to waste the money on the rails. We will look into getting different furniture when the time comes. She may not want white then anyway.

I was having a hard time finding pieces that went together to put on our registry. Stuff isn't in stock or its been discontinued. Its crazy how quick the turnover is!
  • We changed our mind on our crib so many times. I suggest narrowing it down by price, color, if convertibility matters and what do you want it to convert to (toddler, daybed, twin or full), and do you want matching furniture (changing table, dresser, and/or chest of drawers).

Ultimately we decided on Stork Craft Valencia crib and matching dresser in gray. One thing that I really wanted was a lower front facing rail as most cribs front rails hit me right in the middle of my hip. To have that plus the added style and it comes with toddler conversion for under $300 was an added bonus. The dresser is something that will grow with her too.
  • If you are hoping to keep the crib as a piece of furniture that grows with your child consider rail guards. Teething babies can do a job on the crib when they are old enough to stand.
  • We love our Hensvik crib from Ikea. Cute, cheap, good safety reviews. It can convert to a toddler bed as well. It's durable, since our toddler jumps and runs around in it before falling asleep at night.

    Good luck!

I actually need an opinion guys!! I have no clue about cribs or anything like that but I looked online and found a cute simple white crib (that I will decorate, white is too plain for me) and its the type of crib where the sides can be pulled down for taking the baby out easier and so on. After I got it my moms friend started telling me that the reason it was so hard for me to find one that style was because they don't sell them anymore and actually advise not to use them. My mom used one with me and had no issues at all! Did any of you ladies get that kind or is that style so old they don't sell them anywhere? Just want to make sure my baby is safe, I'm sure it will be in this crib. This style is just the style I've always wanted. Just wanted an opinion!
  • @jclff- Google drop rail cribs. There is a lot of information on the safety. There were new safety standards passed in 2011 due to safety concerns. If the crib complies with the 2011 standards it should be okay. But either way, I would want to educate myself on the issues surrounding this type of crib before placing my baby in one.
  • @kajohnson473- I am not sure if this will help any, but here are some recommendations from the newest baby bargains book:

Good (under $300)- Fisher Price Charlotte or Newburry (sold at target).

Better ($300-$500)- DiVinci Kalani, Westwood Stratton, Imagio Baby Midtown Cottage.

    Best ( $500-$800)- Pali Imperia

I wanted a white crib, and I wanted a solid back on it (I don't like the slats look when it's converted to a normal bed). I found one on Wayfair.com and ordered it from there. Hoping it's what I imagined from the picture so I don't have to return it and keep searching!
  • We got our crib from Babies R Us in the Espresso color and love it! https://m.toysrus.com/skava/static/product.html?type=TRU_product_us&url=/product/index.jsp?productId=11363879&domain=http://www.toysrus.com&productId=11363879. It also comes in French White. We got it during their 15% off furniture sale. It concerts to a toddler bed and a full-size bed (although we'll probably only use it for the toddler bed since we plan on using it for the next kiddo too).
  • @kajohnson473 We bought a white crib for our little girl. We've had both an expresso colored one, and a natural finish. We bought a convertible this time, so we spent a little extra money on it.
  • Forgot to add the pic
  • Our sons crib came from Ikea. It was under $100. It converts to a toddler bed. I love it and plan to get another one from there for this baby.
  • Thank you so much everyone!!
  • Got a set from Walmart with a convertible crib. My 3.5 yo is sleeping in it as a bed now. Got a free mini crib from a coworker for this new little one. I figure by the time the baby needs a bigger bed, the older on will.need a big girl bed.

We can't decide between baby cache crib (munir), mother Hubbard jack & kill, or hgtv home (bassettbaby) Grayson crib. Anyone know much a four these brands and their durability and safety? I want to make sure we get a solid set not something cheap. I feel like all cribs seem great-- maybe more the dressers that go with them seem cheap...
  • I got the 3 peice crib, dresser and Changing table from walmart. $250 total, 3.5 years ago. Convertable crib and my daughter (3years+) is still enjoying. No issues.
  • Getting a white convertible crib from the honest company.
