Sore hands??

Hi ladies, I'm currently 35w3d and about two weeks ago my hands have been very sore. They sometimes are swollen, but I know that that's normal. I'm unsure of the soreness though? All through-out the day they ache especially my knuckles and finger joints when I'm bend them. I have a doctors apt in a few days, but I was just wondering if anyone else has been experiencing this? Thanks

Re: Sore hands??

  • Mine have been like that for the past few weeks on and off.  My doc said it's pretty common to develop carpal tunnel during the third trimester and that it will go away after delivery.

  • I have not experienced this personally, but a co-worker has. She said during her pregnancy she developed severe carpal tunnel syndrome in just her hands. They would swell and ache. But shortly after delivery she was pain free.
  • I have it too. When I wake up I can't even bend the fingers on my right hand at all. Doc days it's pretty normal, and will probs get worse. Haha, of course.
  • I think all of our joints are just loosening up right now, throwing things off.

  • Oh well I'm praying it goes away after delivery! This is would be awful to have to deal with forever. Thank you so much!
  • I just started experiencing this too at 35 wks but just thought I was being a baby! Good to know its normal. Thanks!
  • Ugh, I have it too. It started with the right hand, and has since moved to the left. My right hand was also experiencing some numbness when I would so things such as put on makeup or write (which is awful, since I am an writing teacher!) Anyway, I bought a soft splint at CVS for my right hand and it helps with the numbness... However, the soreness is still a problem--worse at night and in early morning. You may want to look up some PT exercises to help...I see a PT for sciatica and she's been working on my hands/wrists too, lately. It helps.
  • I had the same issue. My dr called it tenosynovitis. It started off as. One knuckle being sore, and then the pain got so unbearable I had to head to urgent care last Saturday. They put a splint on and wrapped it up to keep it steady. Within 2-3 days I felt so much better. Doctor says it's one of the glories of being pregnant... Who knew?!
  • I have developed pretty serious carpal tunnel the past couple weeks and wake up with pain and numbness in both hands that lasts all day... My doctor's words of advice on how to make it stop? "Give birth." Thanks! I also have started wearing wrist splints at night (husband calls them my bionic hands!) which helps me get through the days. Good luck - I hear it gets better and it helps to know we are all in this together!
  • Mine have been getting numb/falling asleep when I do simple things too, like put on make up or just doing something on my phone! They only feel like they are getting worse every day, luckily we all only have a few weeks to go!
  • My hands have been doing this too. I've been having issues gripping or opening things that are really easy to open. Like water bottles for instance. They dont really hurt just sore especially around the knuckles doesn't bother me that much. But reassuring to see it's happening to other ppl.
  • Hey ladies - this may help - so rather than running out to the store to buy carpal tunnel wrist braces, I wore my snowboarding wrist gaurds to bed last night and it was the first night in over a week where I didn't wake up with completely numb hands or painful wrists...just thought I'd share
