Help ! My outfit and underwear !

Ladies help ! I am 36 weeks pregnant and have started packing hospital bag and I am now facing the dreaded what do I wear question. I have my LOs stuff put aside , basically waiting to see how big he is ! But what would you recommend I wear to hospital and home from hospital ? Also , the dreaded grannies. Any suggestions on what types of granny undies I should buy ? TIA :)! And congratulations we are almost done !

  • Wear something comfy for to and from the hospital. Going there, you're going to be uncomfortable and laboring, so style isn't really going to matter. Going home, you'll have a pad the size of a loaf of bread in your underwear, so you need some room. My go to for both are yoga pants or loose pj bottoms.

Last time around, I bought a couple packages of Hanes granny panties and they worked fine. I also took about a dozen pairs of the hospital mesh underwear home with me and went through those first. They are beyond comfortable.

  • I wouldn't worry about what you wear to the hospital. You'll get in a gown once you're there.

Last time I packed a maternity/nursing combo t-shirt, a nursing bra, and a pair of stretchy fold-over waist maternity gauchos for going home. Super comfy and roomy for the hospital mesh panties and giant pad.

I didn't wear my own undies until I got home, and like @bean8213, they were Hanes granny panties that I got from Target in a larger size.M

I finally got out the suitcase and now I need to start packing myself!

  • I'm also not concerned about what I'm wearing there, you will get in the hospital gown pretty quick if your admitted, and I packed one of my smaller size maternity maxi dresses for the ride home and some comfy pjs and tank top just in case. I third the mesh underwear from the hospital and I also bought some cheap Hanes granny panties for home.
  • Comfy granny panties not the cheap cheap ones and some nice sweat pants. Be comfy. Dont worry about what to wear honestly you wont care after pushing out a watermelon lol.

  • I plan a wearing maternity leggings and a long tee home. Nothing fancy just easy and comfort for me!
  • I'm planning on baggy sweats and a tshirt. Yoga pants and leggings are too tight on my butt to be wearing with a pad that looks like a diaper!!
  • I didn't get to pick what I wore to the hospital last time, and I don't really think it matters because they make you take it all off when you get there anyway.

I'm a little at a loss this time too because both of mine have been cold-weather babies! I'm planning on sweats and maybe a tank and light cardigan.

Oh, and I totally wore the mesh undies they give you at the hospital. Both times. So sexy..

  • I personally preferred loose gowns at the hospital so there wasn't much fabric around my crotch. I feel like the less fabric there, the less risk of wedgies and discomfort. As for panties, just plain, inexpensive cotton. Not to freak you out, but there's a lot of bleeding. You may have to change your panties several times a day depending on how much you bleed. So you want enough to not run out, and you want them to be able to stand up to lots of washes. If you have the Target Cartwheel app on your phone, they often have sales on Hanes or Fruit of the Loom. So you can get them fairly inexpensive.
  • Yoga pants and long baggy sweat shirt to wear home for me. I just bought like four pairs of jersey lounge pants from old navy that fold down to wear in the hospital. They were cheap, super soft and comfy and also black is good because of the blood situation. I tried to wear disposable underwear a lot while I'm there for the first few days. Otherwise you're changing them often. I bought a few nursing tanks from thyme maternity and just brought like a sleep cardigan to wear over them from old navy. For underwear I prefer maternity fold over ones. I have been wearing them for the last few months and that's what I'll use for the first bit postpartum and then throw them out afterward.. Doesn't mater if they get ruined.
  • I'm bringing the ugliest underwear I own. I will probably end up throwing it away. A previous thread mentioned Depends incontinence underwear. Might be worth a try.

I plan on bringing some shorts with an elastic band or drawstring because it's going to be hot as hell in NC at the end of May. A tank top to wear home.

It's not a fashion show. No one will see me walking to my car from the hospital. If they do, I won't care anyway. lol
  • Someone recommended that I wear a nursing shirt or tank home instead of a long dress in case I have to nurse right before I leave hospital or right when I get home they said getting in and out of a dress will be the last thing I want to be doing
