Name Advice - your thoughts

We have loved the name Ava for years. My sister has a daughter Aoife (pronounced E-fa). Is it too similar to have cousins called Ava and Aoife?

Re: Name Advice - your thoughts

  • My only concern would be that Ava is the #5 most popular name right now. That being said my sister was named jenny when that was the most popular name and she was never in class with any other Jenny's!

I don't think so, we had several that were very similar in my family.
  • I love Ava - think it is beautiful! I don't think they are too similar at all.
  • I think it's fine. They're cousins not siblings.
  • I love the name Ava but it is way too popular for me. My daughter has an Ava in her preschool class and two in her library group.

  • Thanks for your feedback! We don't mind a popular name. It's about number 12 where we live as well. We might consider other names but I'm feeling a lot better about the choice.
  • I think it's okay- my youngest is Nora and we have a niece who we see regularly named Dora. We also have a lot of repeating middle names (Nicholas James and Andrew James, Eleanor Rose and Hope Rose...our boy name this time around is Henry Neal and I have a nephew William Henry). I think anything goes with cousins!

  • I love it! I don't think there's a problem at all!
  • I say go for it :) I love the name Ava! I was originally in love with *Ava Rose* if ours is a girl... But with the last initial *F* I'm not a fan of the ARF acronym... Is that getting too picky?
  • I have a friend with kids Eva and Evan, they are so similar but it totally works for them! I honestly think they are different enough that it's ok at family functions!
