Hip pain. Can't sleep.

I have very bad hip pain especially standing up after sitting or while in bed. I sleep on my right side but then it is so painful to move from there. When i sleep on my left side my hips feel like a million bucks but then my little one thrashes around and my left leg goes numb. I just cant win. Any suggestions? I have two other kids and I never had this with them. My doctor just tells me it's part of pregnancy and I will get through it. Wth

Same thing mine told me, it's pelvic pain. Although you don't want to hear it, it's true your gonna have to just deal with it.. I have been for weeks
:(( I just sleep with a pillow between my legs. it doesn't help completely but it helps.

  • Pillows galore to help alleviate pressure and weight. Also my Dr told me to take a few Tylenol pm every few nights.

Do you have a recliner you can sleep in?

  • I was having this same problem, it hurt so bad to even move. I was referred to a physical therapist. She showed me the right way to sleep on each side, with pillows and without, the best way to sit (this will probably be different for you based on your evaluation). Surprisingly there is a right and wrong way to sleep on your sides, especially if you're using pillows. Because of the hip pain, I started favoring one side, which she gave me 'exercises' to fix. I highly recommend a physical therapist, even if you only go one time. Most insurances will pay if you get a referral. I've been sleeping so much better and have significantly less hip pain :)
  • I am experiencing the same thing. It's so embarassing but sometimes i hafta wake dh to help turn me. its humiliating and painful. last night i caved and used a heating pad. My chiro told me don't use them bc they heat up the uterus and makes baby uncomfortable (and while using it, i could tell he was uncomfortable- thrashing to the point of making me nauseas) but i used it on a low setting for like 7 minutes just on my hips and it was enough. I took it off and fell asleep. I still woke to pee and woke from pain and could barely get out of bed this morning, but at least i fell asleep quickly. usually i toss adn turn for a few HOURS before i can bc the pain is so bad. it sucks so bad. my chiro has never mentioned a "right way" to sleep on my side, so i'm definitely gonna ask about that when i go next week!! he did sell me a pillow for between the knees and i use that, so I hope that's not the only trick he has up his sleeve. i know its only a few more weeks but i'd love to sleep a bit before baby shows up. i wasn't like this with my last pregnancy :/
  • I saw in some previous threads that someone told to use a memory foam mattress top for the bed you sleep in. However I was not sure if it will help, and of course if I hadn't have one in my closet I wouldn't buy it to try . But fortunately I had one (we bought it for the guests bed because it was very uncomfortable to sleep in) and now I can tell that it really works with my terrible hip pain! It is quiet thin but helps well. Maybe you can try to find something similar? And of course a lot of pillows between the legs and on my back- I have one large body pillow (under the head+ through my back+ between the legs) and one simple pillow in front of me for arms or sometimes a little under the belly if I try to lay a little more on my back than on my side. Hope it helps you! It's only few weeks left ;))
  • Some nights I use a bunch of pillows and sleep sitting up, reclining. Comfier on my hips.

I have the same thing. I toss and turn all night because if I'm on one side for too long the pain becomes unbearable. I have found Tylenol sometimes helps.

Your chiropractor said that? That's totally inaccurate information, unless you're putting the heating pad directly on your belly. Heating pads are great and frequently used during pregnancy for various aches and pains.

OP, I second what someone else said about physical therapy. It's been a lifesaver for me. Also, make sure you use a thick pillow between your legs when you sleep. It also needs to go all the way from knees to ankles, not just between your knees (that can make hip pain worse).
