Heya
Due to a rushed and panicked appt I have little to no information on my new GD status.
Because I have GD is that a gauruntee that the baby will be bigger than normal or is that only if I don't keep my bloods in the normal level?
If I do keep my bloods in check via my diet does that then mean that I am successfully managing the GD and should prevent any issues with the pg/baby?
I have an appointment on Monday and am just feeling a little bewildered until then
Re: GD - birth weight
I wish I had to have 140 at 2 hours. My cutoff is 130 after 1 hour!
I'm not sure how your blood is measured but in aus they have told me my fasting has to be under 5.3, and check 2 hours after meals and have to be under 6.7.
I'm not sure if it's a coincidence but since following the GD diet (3 days) baby has been far more active then before this. I am 33 weeks
I have GD for the second time...but I am much better off than this time than I was with my first...with my first is was very diucult for me to maintain my sugars, so they put me on glyburide (an oral medication to help keep my sugars level) and I had to go in for non-stress tests (no insulin). Oh and I delivered 1 day before my due date even though I was induced, an dmy baby was 6lb 13 oz, so not big at all.
I was told that my 2 hour post sugar should be at 120 or below and my fasting in the morning needs to be 95 or below...so you may want to double check the numbers you need to be aiming for. If you can keep your sugars level all the better for baby.
The biggest concerns shouldn't actually be a big baby. What I didn't learn about complications from GD until after my first came was (and this is not to scare you this is just to inform you of what I didn't know),1. that the baby's blood sugar can drop drastically after birth if your sugar levels ar enot maintained and we had to suppliment with formula immediately and feed him quite often in order to stabilize his blood sugar--this took about 36 hours after birth. AND 2. unstable blood sugar levels can lead to stillbirth.
I'm not a healthcare professional, but figure you would want to be aware of this before (vs after like me). If you have a nice ratio of carbs and protien each time you eat you should be ok, but make sure to talk with your doctor to be sure and so you can determine what is best for you based on your individual case.
PS: it has been much easier this time for me to keep my sugars in check (even with some treats)...pasta seems to be my Achilles Heal.
My sugars have been really good highest I've been is 5.8 and the guide says to be under 6.7.
Thanks for your info about the other things pp, the midwife did say something about FF but I thought it was only just as thy were born no take xtended time afterwards.
Good luck all, it's not long to go now anyway and in the end we shall come out with healthy babies
This time around they gave me the test right away and I have been considered a GD since the get-go. My numbers have been 100% within the limits and no insulin is needed. Baby is right where she should be.
As traumatic as it was to be diagnosed the first time it was all for the best. It wasn't too difficult and you just have to remember the reason why you're doing this. Good luck!
