First OB appointment at 13 weeks??

I am currently 9 weeks.  Initially, I got an OB appointment at 10 week but she is not my first choice OB. I found out today that the OB I want will be able to take me but her first available appointment is at 13 week. Do you think this is too late? How soon do you guys go to your OB?  Should I settle with the other OB and go see her at 10 week? They are from the same network so the nurse does not want me to go see my 2nd choice OB if I intend to stay with my 1st choice OB.

If I go see my OB at 13 week, will I miss anything? I already had ultrasounds and we saw the heartbeat.  So far everything seems fine.  Is there anything else you do if you see an OB earlier? This is my first pregnancy and I have no clue about anything.

Just curious to see what you gals are doing. Thanks!

Re: First OB appointment at 13 weeks??

  • First time I went at 11 weeks, with this pregnancy I'm going at 12 weeks. It's pretty common to start seeing the doctor around that time and then go once a month thereafter unless you are high risk

  • I will be 14 weeks when I first see my doctor. My last pregnancy The first visit was around then too.
  • I don't think you'll miss much by switching to your first choice. You've already had the important stuff the OB would do up to the 13 weeks because of your situation. I had my first appt at 10 weeks and all we did was the pap and an ultrasound. I'm not doing genetic testing so that is about all else they do this early and I don't see my ob again until 14 weeks. I think I would rather switch now than stay with the second choice and end up wanting to switch later.

I don't think there is a problem as my early appointment was just an ultrasound for the heartbeat and to discuss our medical history and the pregnancy generally. My next one is at 12 ish weeks. One thing to consider is that if you do genetic testing and decide to terminate for whatever reason I think (but could be mistaken) you have to do a vaginal delivery after 14 weeks which would be traumatic.
