Gun Range?

strange question - can I go to the gun range while pregnant? I have my CCDW permit so I carry daily but hubs and I have date night at the range from time to time. It wasn't something I thought about until just now. Anyone? I'll email doctor too just a final decision.

    Is it outdoor or indoor? I'd be concerned more about an indoor range.. We like to go shooting, but we go outside and I just wear more ear protection than usual.

    My husband shoots competitively.  I went to one of his matches, but while they were doing the actual shooting (in 20 minute intervals) I sat in the back of our Rav4 and watched, because he was really worried about the lead in the air. And usually I help him clean up the shells, but he wouldn't let me do that either. I wasn't worried about ear protection since he does small bore and the large caliber on the next range over was louder than them.  It was during the first trimester, so we were also being extra careful, but you can always ask your doctor.  The only thing I would be worried about is the lead.

    We usually go to indoor because the outdoor is 45 minutes away. Guess I will pass for now and if I NEED to fire my weapon then better I do than don't.

    I was told no shooting till after the babe was born, due to the lead in the bullets. I'm so disappointed because my hubby bought me tracers to try out and now I have to wait till next summer to shoot them. :(

    I think it depends on the gun you are shooting. A 17 HMR is going to produce a lot less lead than a 7mm. I plan on shooting gophers this spring...

    I shot sporting clays with my first pregnancy with no problems. I just make sure to wash up and change clothes after I'm done. Have done some pistol target practice this baby too, but we almost always shoot outside.

    Most indoor ranges will not allow pregnant women to shoot at any point during your pregnancy due to potential lead exposure. As you get past your first trimester, there is also a concern of the noise affecting the baby. Personslly, I've put my guns in the safe for the next few months. It'll be a great form of stress relief after the baby is born!

    No no no no no - absolutely not!!! The lead can be so harmful to baby it can cause miscarriage! Not to mention the sound/loudness can cause harm too. If you absolutely have to shoot in a life or death situation, yes. But no hunting and no range shooting.

    don't do it. I think the recoil can't be good. Also, you don't want the fume. Wouldn't recommend it

    The amniotic sac/fluid/your body protects your baby's ears. I plan on shooting all summer. Just wear ear protection and shoot outdoors. Use your best judgment and do what you feel comfortable with! :)

    I'm in the army so and I have a profile from my doctor that says no firing inside or cleaning of any weapons due to airborne lead concentrations and bore gas emissions. It is possible to shoot outdoors until 20 weeks bc of the ventilation.

    From my research:
    The lead risk is actually pretty low, if you are worried have someone else clean for you. There can be a bit of a shock from the recoil if you are shooting a really high caliber (similar to the reason we aren't supposed to do Rollercoasters). But I wouldnt worry too much about that. And most doctors suggest avoiding indoor ranges. The sac protects from sounds for the most part but indoors it's pretty loud and of course there are other hazards shooting in an enclosed space. Most indoor ranges won't even let you shoot if they know you're pregnant.
