TTC after 35

Confused /frustrated

I am totally confused and a little frustrated at this point. This is my first month using OPKs and charting my temp so I'm looking for some advice on these. I have been on a 23-24 day cycle the last 3 months since going off pill. Im guessing that means that I'm ovulating around CD10. I started temping the day my last period ended. I also starting using the wondflo OPKS 2 times a day (around 11 am and around 5pm). Tomorrow will be CD14. I have never gotten a positive on any OPKs. Also most days my temp has been 97.01 or right around there. Today is was 97.32. Is that enough of a temp rise to assume that I possibly ovulated ? Any help here is welcomed. Thanks...

Re: Confused /frustrated

  • It's possible you aren't ovulating yet since going off the pill, but that is enough of a rise to indicate ovulation. If you had a really short surge you may have missed it. Are you tracking any other signs? Have you charted your cm or checked your cervix? It's probably going to take a few cycles to learn what's typical for you.

Are you making sure you don't pee or drink anything for a couple hours before using the OPK? If your urine is too diluted you could miss a positive reading.

  • I don't use opk's but I do temp.  That temp rise is enough to indicate ovulation if it stays up for the next couple of days.  Good luck!

  • Today it was 97.14. That's higher but not as high. Would that indicate ovulation?

It could mean you ovulated.  What you're looking for is three temps higher than the last six.

Are you using fertility friend to chart your temps?  If not, I suggest you check them out because they do all of the guesswork for you regarding ovulation.

  • Yes I'm using it but since I just started, I haven't really gotten fully into it. It just shows you the chart right?

With ff you're able to chart your temp and other signs of fertility such as opk's, cm and cervix position.  It will take everything into consideration and tell you when you o'd according to all of the signs.  I've found it to be really helpful in having a more educated guess as to when I'm fertile each cycle and timing sex according to that.

  • I have only been recording my temp and OPKs. I guess that's not enough for the app to tell me that I ovulated but I had an elevated temp for 3 days and then it went back down. I am guessing that was O but the app hasn't recognized it. I have no clue how to know how my cervix is supposed to feel. How do you learn that?
  • You might want to check out the tutorials on ff.  I don't check my cervical position and I don't do opk's.  I just chart my temp and cm.  Can you post a link to your chart?

  • I also recommend the tutorials on ff, they are very helpful.
The thing about charting is, it can take a little while to get to know your body's rhythm. You will find that you have certain patterns and you will eventually know everything to look for.

For example: my temps stay in the 97 range before O. They go up to the 98 range after O. I will have dips here and there but generally if it stays above 98 I can assume I am after O. When I am in my fertile window I have creamy or watery cm and my cervix moves high. There is a very short window of time that I will be able to feel that it is open. That is the time I know I have the best chance. For me this happens the same day I get a positive opk. I have a short surge. But everyone is different so you want to find out what your body does at what time and then you can better read the signs to know when you are most fertile.

Your next cycle ff should be able to mark O since it will be more familiar with your temp pattern. If not, you may be anovulatory right now in which case you would want to talk to your doctor.

I know it's frustrating but give it a few cycles to see if you can establish a pattern. Read the tutorials and learn as much as you can. Then if it looks like you aren't ovulating, go to your doctor armed with information. This is the very best way to help yourself. Good luck!
