TTC after 35

Newbie here! TTC at 40!

Hi there! New to the boards, but used the Knot  years ago when I was getting married, so familiar with the forum terrain :)   After 10 years of marriage, we are TTC at 40. My AMH is 1.07 which my RE says is awesome for someone my age, but DH has low sperm count (20 million) and low motility (30%). We just started with the RE a couple of weeks ago and were planning an IUI this cycle, but on CD 10 U/S i had lost my dominant follicle and only had two small ones. We were going to give it a few days to see if they grew enough by CD 14, my predicted O day, but I ended up Oing on CD 12 confirmed with LH surge CD 12 then raised BBT the next morning.  I'm pretty clock work on my cycle, but my RE said she is considering me anovulatory since my follicles were immature at the time of O. I was looking forward to the IUI (which would have been today) so I'm pretty bummed we couldn't do it this cycle. I can't believe after just to weeks of doing all of this stuff (and learning SO MUCH about conception!!) that I am already this disappointed with not being able to do the IUI. I just assumed it would be wham bam here's your baby ma'am, although i know better than that.... One of my best friends had her daughter after her first iui several years ago and i was just assuming I'd be the same. Anywho - i guess i have four weeks to take my pre natals, eat right and obsess before we can hopefullly try the IUI. I will probably do a Clomid cycle even though I'm so early into the game just based on my age.
I haven't seen many 40+ gals on here, so if you are one, please check in!!

Re: Newbie here! TTC at 40!

  • Welcome! I am 42. I started ttc when i was 39 (although i had to take an 8 month break to address an non-related medical issue). I can relate to the frustration when things don't go as planned, but its great that you started working with an RE right away -- that will save you a lot of time. I wish i had least done some of the testing immediately as opposed to waiting the 6 months that is recommended (the testing seemed to take forever!).

I wish you all the best! And there are several of us 40+-ers on here :)
