For anyone who wasn't completely set on a theme from the get-go... where did you look to get inspired?? I have looked a little at Pinterest but not loving anything yet. We are having a little boy and I'm ready to get painting lol!!
We are having a girl :] Our first together (I have a 9 year old step son, he lives with us full time) and we are planning on having one more. I wanted our nursery to be pretty gender neutral because once the next baby comes along, the 2 little ones will eventually end up sharing a room. My husband's #1 hobby is his salt water fish tank. My little guy suggested we do an ocean theme in the nursery. I came to love his suggestion! I started searching for gender neutral ocean nursery decor and items on Pinterest & other sites and I've been really happy with what I've been able to find. The colors in the room will be light blue, white, a soft coral color and a light golden, sandy color. The walls will be light blue & white with the others as accent colors. I figure if our next LO is a boy we can add a few pops of navy blue and it'll be great for baby girl & baby boy. Good luck finding your inspiration!
We're having a girl and still have a gender neutral theme. My inspiration actually came from Macy's when I was standing in line in the baby department to purchase my maternity clothes. I saw this little guy. I showed it to DH along with the rest of the toys in the collection and then we picked out bedding that was similar.
The shocker is we Disney fans and not one Disney or Marvel character is associated with the nursery.
My husband is a aeronautical engineer (rocket scientist / ship engineer I guess you could say) so I'm dreaming of a rustic rocket theme for a boy and a nautical theme for a girl. We are team green so I'm hoping my bedding can be neutral with all the accents being added in after!
With our first child (ds) we wanted something that he could grow into and not have to change in a few years. We ended up choosing our favorite college football theme and going from there! Painted the walls the lightest color (grey) and decorated with the whites and dark blues (signs, border, flags, etc.)
I own this picture, and it's hanging up in my office. It was my sudden inspiration, to make my baby's room themed after this pokemon and it's evolution. We painted the walls to look like warm Caribbean water, and the sheets and pillows will be the red-orange and yellow/gold of the fish's scales and fins.
We have always been Team Green, so I have gone with very gender neutral. For my daughter we did Old Fashioned Winnie the Pooh. My son we did Noah's Arch (we're religious, so it fit well) and this time we're doing Peter Rabbit (I have figurines from when I was a child that I am using in the nursery and what gave me the idea to do Peter Rabbit).
We are also team green since my husband has convinced me that we some need to know the gender. Originally if I knew we were going to have a boy, it was going to be a football themed room. However, since we aren't finding out, we are going to do a book themed room everything from Peter Pan to Dr. Seuss.
My husband and I love Disney. I knew if I had a girl we would do princesses cause I love Disney Princesses haha we are having a little boy though so we are doing UP. I picked that based on the saying from it "Adventure is out there". My inspiration usually comes from a saying I like and then paint over their bed.
I knew the colors I wanted for my first would include a sage green since that's already our paint color in those rooms. For my daughter, We went with pink, brown and green, and a jungle theme based on a bedding collection I liked (but never ended up getting.)
For this new little girl, we'll do a palette of greens and blues and probably do an ocean theme.
Good luck! I love pinterest. Going into Babys R Us for the first time helped, as does browsing the pottery barn catalogue.
I've always wanted a girl! Being that I'm the only girl and I have 2 boys, I can't help not to go all girl theme.
My inspiration came from several things. The elephant and pearls are a symbol of my sorority. The colors will be pink and grey, every princess needs pink! Lol
My inspiration came from a favorite quote, "everything that is real was once imagined first" it's from the velveteen rabbit. I love that it is gender neutral, but also how much it applies to having a baby. I have always imagined, dreamed of being a mom, and now what I've always imagined is becoming real. I will use the crib bedding as a way to bring some girl color to the room, but I'm going with pale pink and grey. I like calm, soothing colors
We are having a boy and doing a nautical theme. We live at the beach so it seems fitting. I've found so many cute ideas on Pinterest and started picking up some things from Home Goods.
When I saw little ducks and monkey outfits I knew that's what I wanted to do. My nursery is going to be grey, pastel yellow, and pastel green with monkies and duckies. We find out the gender tomorrow if baby cooperates.
We are having a baby girl and I chose Winnie the Pooh because I loved Winnie the Pooh as a child and I didn't want something girly or princessey. I looked at pictures on google of nurseries to get ideas. We are painting the walls a soft yellow and these colors go great with pink or purple in case she decides those are her favorite colors in a few years. I'm debating about painting a few pastel butterflies on the walls and maybe a honey bee or 2 to go with them.
DH didnt want 'baby pink' with our first girl - so we chose bright pink and orange and her sheets had those colors (plus yellow) owls on them. we had a bright orange accent wall with white birch tree decals
dd2 - I won and got my baby pink room no real theme. i chose some really pretty sheets and we just went off that. Soft colors, ect.
My husband is obsessed with hockey so when we found out it's a boy a hockey room seemed fitting. We're New York Islanders fans and the colors are blue and orange. I found a cute photo and plan to do a mix of different prints. He asked if we could get a fat head and I only said yes because I think the player is cute!
With my daughter, I picked a favorite childrens character- Totoro and two colors and went from there. She has light purple walls with light green curtains, bedding with those two colors in floral patterns, then a Totoro wall decal, Totoro Mobile, and hand painted Totoro pictures i bought off an artist on etsy. For our son I'm thinking a forest animal theme with pale green walls, and lots of animal decals.

My sister and I LOVED Totoro growing up! Your daughter is awesome! :-)
We are sharing our bedroom with baby, but my style is already on the playful and colorful side so I'm going to have fun with it. I'm thinking bright teal as a main color and lots of white and other bright accent colors. Going to do lots of fun animal artwork and maybe throw a little Dr. Suess and other book illustrations.
I found the bedding I want and will go off that. Its Aqua pink and white. Paisly, polka dots, and these sweet birds. Her walls are already Greg so we will have a white crib and then add pops of pinknand white for decor. I already made her name to hang above her crib.
No theme really. But I saw the fabric letters (LO's name is Mila too) and am going with it. Trying to do a gender neutral, whimsical nursery. I bought the bedding below already and am in love with that wallpaper (very expensive though).
I saw this adorable baby shower cake on Pinterest before I knew what I was having and decided if I had a girl, I wanted to do pink and grey elephants. Anything can be an inspiration!

Yay! That's the theme I'm going with!!! I think it's a big hit for baby girls this year!!
I've been obsessed with www.houzz.com and pinterest for ideas. We haven't picked anything yet, and won't until we know the sex after our scan in a few weeks, but its great for ideas and inspiration.
