Braxton Hicks brought on with walking

I've been having BH for about a week and they have slowly picked up their pace. They have never hurt just super tight and uncomfortable. Tonight, walking has stated to bring them on back to back. The only thing that makes my tummy lose again is laying on my left side. But as soon as I get up they hit again. They last as long as I'm on my feet.

There's no way they are real contractions even though they are close together. They still don't hurt. There's nothing else going on like back pain, increased discharge, mucus plug, or anything.

Has anyone else experienced this or anything similar?

Re: Braxton Hicks brought on with walking

  • Mine definitely get going if I'm walking around a lot and quickly.  But they're not nearly as consistent as yours.  My doc told me to call if they were happening frequently, so if I were you, I would just call to check on it.

I have been having them for about two weeks and they hurt a lot nothing helps anymore not even laying on my side but I have no leaking it anything like that I also have back pain I'm way ready!!
  • I layed down shortly after posting and they are gone. It's so weird. I'll call my doc in the morning for sure. And if they come back overnight I'll call l&d. I'm glad I'm not the only one feeling them with walking though. Thanks y'all!
  • Def. Call your doctor in the morning. In the meantime drink lots of water. BH can come on from dehydration. Good luck momma!
  • I had preterm labour 2 weeks back, i went to the hospital because i saw a blood clot but was feeling no pain and they told me i started contractions and was dialated.
My doctor told me that with some women they don't start feeling any pain until after they reach 5 cm..

Point is keep track of your contractions and pay attention to any other symptoms you might have, it would be a good idea to get an appointment if money is not an issue.

    Good luck!
  • I have been having mine forever. Doc told me that when you stand gravity pushes baby down that's why they get stronger. If the contractions are not getting closer and are not causing a noticeable increase in pain or discomfort then to not worry about them. If I even touch my stomach I will have a contraction. Mine are sometimes enough to cause very intense pain. The kind of pain that I tell myself this one is it....but nope so far no dilation. Good luck.

  • I didn't have any overnight and only one in the last hour and a half. I called my doc and she said to keep an eye on them. And to call back if they got crazy again. I have a busy day at work with lots of walking so I'm nervous but observant so hopefully they stay calm. Thank you so much for the advice and posts.

I was having the same thing last week. I called and they said to take it easy and drink some more water-as if I wasn't ready drinking enough-and if they became more frequent (5 minutes apart) to go to L&D. They ended uP easing and I didn't have to go. So take it easy, rest lots and drink up!
  • UGH I had something similar the other night. Really close together (11 in an hour). Nothing I was doing helped (laying down, drinking lots of water, etc). It was after hours so I called the on-call OB. She had me wait it out another hour (if they persisted or became painful I was to go to the hospital)...

After about another hour they fizzled.... but it definitely spooked me. And they are still more frequent this week!

I'd suggest a call into your doctor...and drink LOTS of water.

  • I've been having them when I'm really active and trying to do things like clean or cook. Last night and once today, I had one long, painful one and then they just went away. It's so hard to tell this late in the pregnancy what's something to be concerned about and what is just gas! I would call if they were that close together just to let them know what's going on. Good luck!
  • When I go for my walk I'm as hard as a basketball with an occasional heavy painful contraction. Apparently normal, just one more thing to be thankful for I guess
  • I've been having BH just like that too. If they don't go away with resting it's pry the real deal.

When I went into labor with my daughter my contractions never got consistent with timing them and did not start to hurt until I hit 7 cm. the only reason I knew it was the "real deal" was gut instinct and I felt like a bowling ball was going to fall out of me Ha ha!
  • Thank you all for your input! Such great info. I had a super active day at work and early evening. Now the day is slowing down a bit and I'm still not having the constant contractions as last night. I'm think it was a one off situation and I'm so thankful.
