31 weeks pregnant, measuring At 33.5 weeks!

Hi there, I wanted to know if anyone had this happen to them before? Being measured a few weeks bigger? I'm expecting my 3rd child aNd they say I might be induced earlier. Any tips or advice or stories would be appreciated x

  • Hi @jshami if you read through the recent threads you'll see this is not at all uncommon. I encourage you to use the search function and/or poke around a bit.
  • I'm 32 weeks and measuring 36 but my doctor wasn't worried and said that measurements have a pretty big margin for error.
  • This is very common. I measured two weeks ahead with my first pregnancy and still delivered 5 days past my edd. First baby was around 8lbs and they told me I was having a 10lb baby. Even checking baby's weight on ultrasound has a large margin of error, so I wouldn't be too concerned.
  • At my last appt I was told the normal range for 31 weeks would be 28-33cm, and these aren't perfect measurements and they don't necessarily correlate to when you are going to go into labor or when you baby will be ready. You are barely out of the range and its early so induction seems a ridiculous discussion to be have with doc now. I would do some research on the dangers of unnecessary inductions and fight it unless there is a strong medical reason.

Absolutely. Inducing early because you're measuring possibly a few weeks ahead sounds like a perfect way to have a preterm baby via c-section. (Not that that's the worst thing in the world, but when it's totally unnecessary it's pretty bad IMO.)
  • I measured 3-4weeks ahead with DS#1. I just got sent for a couple ultrasounds to make sure there wasn't +++ fluid or a huge baby. Everything was fine and I wasn't induced early (although my water broke 6 days before my due date and I was induced due to labour not starting-but that was not a result of measuring big).
