I saw my primary on Monday for the beginning stages of bronchitis (get it every year, with each cold due to my junk lungs, bleh!) on the advice of OB's office. Nothing prescribed and told to wait it out and "see if I kick it".
Now it's Thursday morning, and I'm coughing so violently that I'm having major chest, rib, and ligament pains, not to mention, I can barely breathe.
Anyone ever have to advocate for themselves in this situation before to get prescribed some antibiotics, steroids, cough suppressants?
At this point, I personally feel like I need a hospital or urgent-care nebulizer or breathing machine.
OB and PCP offices open in a few hours, so I'm definitely making calls then!
I'm so exhausted and frustrated with this.
Sorry for making a separate symptom thread, but anyone who has been through something similar... I could use your advice on getting effective treatment.
Re: Bronchitis / When to Go to ER
Unfortunately I don't have any similar stories, but to me, not being able to breathe is a pretty good indication that your doctor's plan isn't working. It's good that you gave it a try, but you've had this before and you know your body. If you haven't had any improvement (sounds like you haven't!) and things have actually gotten worse, make your phone calls to your doctors when they open if you can wait that long. If they insist on following the same treatment plan, I'd say go with your gut and call up the hospital to see what they will do for you.
I hope you feel better soon!!
OB called in an rx for an antibiotic and a cough suppressant. She heard me breathing over the phone, and told me that if I get any worse to go to the ER.

Glad your doc decided to get you some meds without you having to drag yourself in again. Hope you feel better soon!
Being pregnant makes me miss all of the easy OTC drugs I'm used to taking when sick!!
There's nothing worse than a lingering respiratory anything in my opinion. I hope this kid doesn't get my lungs!
I had to finally advocate for myself due to the same thing this year. I was sick for three weeks and coughing, hoping I would kick it but by the end, I could t breathe. I finally got them to prescribe me an inhaler (which I have also had before when I have had bronchitis).
This winter has sucked for sickness.
